Through fun activities we’ll discover ways to take care of our hearts and brains while practicing kindness, gratitude and learning ways to de-stress. Plus, we have the chance to earn PE equipment for our school!

If 150 students take the Health Challenge we will SLIME the PRINCIPAL Mrs. Watson!  There is a school challenge between Rohr and Loma Verde schools to see who will SLIME the principal first. Wildcats, show your school spirit and sign up to take the Health Challenge beginning November 2.

The CVESD Caring Crew and YOU!

We would like to remind our entire community that following the four pillars of health can prevent the spread of COVID-19. As we prepare for the eventual return of some students to campus in phases, our District and school will be enforcing the four core principles (also known as four pillars) for the prevention of COVID-19. These include: 1) Daily Health Screenings, 2) Mask Wearing, 3) Physical Distancing, and 4) Frequent Hand Washing.

Computer Devices & WIFI to Loan Families

We recommend each student have their own laptop with a camera and microphone for Distance Learning.  Some tablets have compatibility issues with the Microsoft Teams platform and online learning programs.

If your child needs a device or wifi hotspot, please complete and submit this form below, so we can plan and prepare the devices for distribution.  If you do not need a device or hotspot, please do not fill out this form. Please fill out a form for each child who needs a device.  Do not fill out for a child who previously received a device.  We will notify you when you device and/or WIFI hotspot are ready.

Safer Activities for Halloween:

  • Online parties/contests (e.g., costume or pumpkin carving) and drive-through events and car parades.
  • Dressing up homes and yards with Halloween-themed decorations.
  • Halloween movie nights with your own household or at drive-in theaters.
  • Outdoor activities such as pumpkin patches where people use hand sanitizer and maintain 6-feet of distance from others.
  • Make fall recipes and crafts as a family for creative dinners and spooky decorations.

Safer Activities for Día de los Muertos

  • Playing music in your home that your deceased loved ones enjoyed
  • Making and decorating masks or making an altar for the deceased
  • Setting out pillows and blankets in your home for the deceased
  • Joining a virtual get-together celebration

Things to Keep in Mind:

Regardless of how you choose to celebrate Halloween or Día de los Muertos it is important to keep the following in mind:

  1. Face Coverings: Face coverings must be worn in accordance with the CDPH Guidance on the Use of Face Coverings, unless an exemption is applicable. Please note plastic, rubber, vinyl and other Halloween costume
  1. masks are not an acceptable substitute for cloth face-coverings for the prevention of COVID-19 spread.
  2. Practice Social Distancing:  Avoid confined spaces, especially indoors. Stay least 6 feet away (3 or more adult steps) from all other people who are not part of your own household, especially while talking, eating, drinking, and singing.
  3. Good Hygiene: Wash or sanitize your hands often. Clean frequently touched items regularly.
  1. Minimize Mixing: Plan activities to limit mixing between different households. Californians are permitted to gather outdoors with a maximum of two other households. This means that on Halloween, if you are spending time with others, you must stick with a maximum of three households (including your own), and not mingle with others. Gatherings should be two hours or less.
  2. Stay Home if You are Sick or You are in a High Risk Group: If you are sick, or you have been in contact with someone who is sick with COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19 stay home, and away from others. People at higher risk of severe illness or death from COVID-19 (such as older adults, people with chronic medical conditions) are strongly urged to stay home.
  • If you are sick or in a high risk group, you should discourage trick-or-treaters from coming to your door by turning off your porch light and other Halloween decoration lights on Halloween night.
  • Please respect your neighbors and your community: Everyone is navigating the COVID-19 pandemic to the best of their abilities and has different comfort levels about what is safe to do. Your local community or your neighbors may be more restrictive than these CDPH guidelines, and we ask that you respect your neighbors’ wishes and concerns
  • Thank you for helping to keep our community safe and healthy during this holiday season!

When Will We Reopen Schools for Live Instruction?

Rep. Kilmer to hold Town Hall Meeting in Forks | Forks Forum

Although our goal of a phased return to in-person instruction was proposed for October 26, 2020, our District will take extra precautions and postpone the reopening because COVID-19 transmission rates in our boundaries are still too high. We want to give you notice now of our decision. We remain committed to a safe return when the data in our boundary area supports resuming at least a hybrid form of in-person instruction. In the meantime, we will continue working with our bargaining groups and stakeholders to ensure a safe reopening at a future date.

Senior Living October Activity Calendar - McKnight Place

Welcome to our Loma Verde School blog. This is the 6th week of school. We are continuing in distance learning format for our preschool through 6th grade students. Please read below for important information.

PLEASE ATTEND – CVESD VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETING MONDAY, 10/5 AT 6:00

The Chula Vista Elementary School District will hold a Virtual Town Hall meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 5. Join us to hear more about plans for a proposed phased reopening of schools to in-person instruction. The time and date of the meeting were moved up in response to parent and staff feedback, and to accommodate the inclusion of two medical professionals with extensive experience and knowledge of the health and care environment, especially in regard to our local community. Superintendent Francisco Escobedo, Ed.D., will be joined by Jeannette Aldous, M.D., and Shaila Serpas, M.D., for this informational and educational presentation. https://bit.ly/2GvE2DR

This event will offer translation in Spanish via the following link: https://bit.ly/30p8p6c

The Superintendent, Dr. Escobedo, released a letter to families on Friday discussing the POSSIBILITY of bringing Pre-K to 2nd grade students and SDC students back for in-person learning. The POSSIBLE date is October 26th. Please know that this date may change or be pushed back due to health regulations. At this time, there is not a date set for grades 3-6. Some important things to note:

  • Your child’s teacher may change
  • School will be modified days Monday through Thursday only
  • There will be no childcare available
  • At any time we could have a full return to Distance Learning due to health restrictions

Every family must fill out the REGISTRATION COMMITMENT FORM below.  Please fill out the Registration Commitment Form by 10/6 for every student that you have at Loma Verde (for example, if you have 3 students then fill it out three times).

https://bit.ly/308rxFt

I know many of you have questions regarding the Commitment Form. Mrs. Watson will respond to all your email as soon as possible. We did want to respond right away to two frequently asked questions.

Question: Can we wait until after the Town Hall on October 5th to respond?

Answer: We will absolutely extend the deadline through October 6th so you have the opportunity to attend the Superintendent’s Virtual Town Hall Meeting on Monday, October 5th at 6:00 pm. If you would like to revise your response after the Town Hall, you may do that.

Q: Why are we being asked to fill out a commitment form for the school year? Why not for the quarter?

A: Thank you for the feedback. Dr. Escobedo agrees that the commitment should be for the quarter. A similar survey would be sent out each quarter. Again, we want to reiterate that any opening is based on transmission rate data that will be continuously examined. Please tune in to the October 5 District Virtual Town Hall meeting for more details.
