Attendance and Student Engagement

A friendly reminder that school starts online for all students at 8:00 amAttendance and student engagement continue to be tracked and monitored, according to state law and AB 77 and SB 98. Engagement is a student completing assignments and being engaged in the learning synchronously (live) and asynchronously (not live with teacher).  Teachers are tracking students’ attendance and assignment completion. Please contact the school office at (619) 420-3940 if your child is having trouble accessing class online.

iReady Math Assessment Continues Sept. 14-18 for 1st-6th Graders

Students in grades 1 through 6 will be continue taking the i-Ready math diagnostic assessment this week. i-Ready allows your child’s teacher to meet your child exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.

A friendly reminder to all parents: Please allow your child to take assessments and tests without your help and hints. These assessments give teachers a true understanding of how to help your student flourish this year.

Some questions may be easy while others may be tough. While it may be tempting to help your child with some of the problems they will see on the assessment, we need the test results to be an accurate reflection of what your child knows. Encourage your student to take each question seriously. Emphasize “thinking before clicking,” because just clicking through will not be a productive use of their time nor reflect what your child actually knows. Remind your child to read directions and questions in their entirety, use paper and pencil to solve math problems if needed, and use the tools that appear at the bottom of the screen. The results will reveal what your child can do independently. In order to help your child get re-energized, games may be embedded throughout the test, so don’t be surprised if you see your child playing an engaging math game during his/her assessment time. We appreciate your support!

Here are some tips that will help your child be successful:

  • Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before taking the assessment
  • Be sure your child eats a good breakfast the morning before taking the assessments
  • Designate a quiet area for working, free of distractions
  • Use headphones
  • Encourage your child do their best and take their time

If you missed the distribution time, please stop by school between 7:30-4:00 to pick up materials.

It will help us if you have your child’s first and last name and their teacher’s name visible on your windshield as you drive through to pick up materials. Also, if you would like to return library books from last year when you come to pick up materials, please feel free to do so. Please remember to drive safely and patiently.

Preparation for the 1st Day on School on August 31

As we prepare for the first day of school, please take some time to help your child designate a quiet space for Distance Learning. Also, please help your child test out their technology and login information prior to the first day school. Students will need a functioning camera, microphone, and audio. Headphones would also be helpful. Please check with your child’s teacher for your child’s login information. If you have any technical difficulties with a device you borrowed from the school or Office365 issues, you may contact the parent help line:

Computer Devices & WIFI to Loan Families

We recommend each student have their own laptop with a camera and microphone for Distance Learning.  Some tablets have compatibility issues with the Microsoft Teams platform and online learning programs.

As we enter the new school year in Distance Learning, we want to make sure that your child has the technology that he/she needs to engage fully with their instruction.  If your child needs a device or wifi hotspot, please complete and submit this form below, so we can plan and prepare the devices for distribution.  If you do not need a device or hotspot, please do not fill out this form. Please fill out a form for each child who needs a device.  Do not fill out for a child who previously received a device.  We will notify you when you device and/or WIFI hotspot are ready. Please note, the district is currently out of hotspots and have ordered more. You will be notified when they arrive.

School Site Council and ELAC

we need you

Loma Verde Elementary School needs parents and guardians to support our school through important parent groups, such as the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), the School Site Council (often referred to as SSC), and the English Language Advisory Committee (often referred to as ELAC). The site-based groups work with the Principal, staff, and other community members to ensure that community voice is part of the shared decision making process of a public school. More details about how you can get involved will be shared in the coming weeks!
