Image result for happy 2020Happy New Year and Welcome Back! We are excited to begin the second semester for the 2019-2020 school year.  School begins on Tuesday, January 14th.  It is a minimum day.  Students are dismissed at 1:00.

We have a lot going on this quarter including our Speech Contest, Read Across America, ELPAC testing, and parent-teacher conferences.  Our Loma Verde soccer teams will be playing games each week.  Please check our blog regularly for the most current information.

  • · CVESD, with support from partners San Diego County Fair and Magic 92.5 FM, will provide randomly drawn winners with prize packs. Eligible students are those with perfect attendance during the contest time period.
  • · Grades eligible are TK – Grade 12.
  • · All schools, District and charter, are eligible.
  • · Each student who has perfect attendance during the contest period will receive one free ticket to the San Diego County Fair!

Friday, Dec. 20: “Holiday Shirt/Holiday Sweater Day” Wear your favorite holiday shirt or sweater today.

 

  • Check the Lost & Found before the end of the day on Friday, December 20. We also have many pairs of glasses that have been turned into the office. Stop by to claim your child’s missing glasses.
  • Food Donations for classroom parties must be approved by the teacher ahead of time.  All food must be store-bought.
  • School starts at 8:00 am.  Students should be on the blacktop, ready to start at this time.  Please drop off your child no later than 7:55 am to ensure he/she is ready for the day.
  • Students who are not picked up by 2:45 pm will check into the office for safety reasons.  Parents/Guardians will check students out of the office.
  • Please use extra patience in and around the parking lot.

hour-of-code-logoFriday, Dec. 13: Hour of Code Activities K-6   Loma Verde will be coding on 12/13.  Upper-grade classrooms are teaming up with primary students to code together.  This is an exciting event and part of an international Hour of Code that schools are taking part in around the world!  Check out the Hour of Code website to try it at home.  It’s free!

Are you looking to buy a computer? We are excited to host the Computers 2 Kids Computer Distribution Event at Loma Verde Elementary on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019  from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. Please register for a computer at c2sdk.org or C2K Application – Loma Verde Elementary See additional information on the flyers below.  C2K will bring the registered amount of systems and some additional systems for walk-ups.  Families are asked to bring cash or debit/credit to secure payment at the event. Personal checks will not be accepted. C2K will coordinate with Cox to facilitate an onsite sign-up process for the Connect2Compete program that provides affordable internet to families.

155 students participated in the 1st quarter perfect attendance reward. The inflatable obstacle course was paid for thanks to Kona Ice. Our 2nd quarter perfect attendance reward is come up soon with a glow dance party.

HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE

The Chula Vista Welfare Council, the Chula Vista Elementary School District, and the Chula Vista Police Action League will all be working together to collect new unwrapped toys for needy children.  Please drop off new toys between November 4 and December 4  in our office.  All the toys will be donated to the Welfare council for later distribution. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

 

COMMUNITY CONNECT BAGS

Thank you for all your donations for our Community Connect Bags.  Our student leaders and parent volunteers worked with our cohort schools to assemble over 2000 bags for those in need!  If you would like to pick up a few bags to distribute to those in need this month, please stop by our office to pick up a few bags.  We would like to distribute the bags during the month of December to support the homeless or other needy individuals in our area.

Community Connect Donation Drive-Thank You!

Our community has been working with other schools in our cohort to collect donations for the Community Connect Bags to help those in need.  Loma Verde students collected over 1200 bottles of water over the last month.  Thank you for your generous support! We will be putting the bags together with the other 5 schools on Monday, November 18 from 3:30-5:30 on our auditorium.

FEDERAL SURVEY

B2_DOE_FederalSurvey-300x134Last week, every student received a yellow Federal Survey Card.  Please complete the yellow form as soon as possible and return to your child’s teacher.  The survey helps all schools qualify for Federal Impact Aid. We greatly appreciate your participation in filling out this important survey.

 

HOLIDAY CANNED FOOD DRIVE AND TOY DRIVE

Please drop off new toys, canned foods, pasta, and rice between November 4 and November 22  in our office.  All the food and toys will be donated to the Welfare Council for later distribution.
