Safer Activities for Halloween:

  • Online parties/contests (e.g., costume or pumpkin carving) and drive-through events and car parades.
  • Dressing up homes and yards with Halloween-themed decorations.
  • Halloween movie nights with your own household or at drive-in theaters.
  • Outdoor activities such as pumpkin patches where people use hand sanitizer and maintain 6-feet of distance from others.
  • Make fall recipes and crafts as a family for creative dinners and spooky decorations.

Safer Activities for Día de los Muertos

  • Playing music in your home that your deceased loved ones enjoyed
  • Making and decorating masks or making an altar for the deceased
  • Setting out pillows and blankets in your home for the deceased
  • Joining a virtual get-together celebration

Things to Keep in Mind:

Regardless of how you choose to celebrate Halloween or Día de los Muertos it is important to keep the following in mind:

  1. Face Coverings: Face coverings must be worn in accordance with the CDPH Guidance on the Use of Face Coverings, unless an exemption is applicable. Please note plastic, rubber, vinyl and other Halloween costume
  1. masks are not an acceptable substitute for cloth face-coverings for the prevention of COVID-19 spread.
  2. Practice Social Distancing:  Avoid confined spaces, especially indoors. Stay least 6 feet away (3 or more adult steps) from all other people who are not part of your own household, especially while talking, eating, drinking, and singing.
  3. Good Hygiene: Wash or sanitize your hands often. Clean frequently touched items regularly.
  1. Minimize Mixing: Plan activities to limit mixing between different households. Californians are permitted to gather outdoors with a maximum of two other households. This means that on Halloween, if you are spending time with others, you must stick with a maximum of three households (including your own), and not mingle with others. Gatherings should be two hours or less.
  2. Stay Home if You are Sick or You are in a High Risk Group: If you are sick, or you have been in contact with someone who is sick with COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19 stay home, and away from others. People at higher risk of severe illness or death from COVID-19 (such as older adults, people with chronic medical conditions) are strongly urged to stay home.
  • If you are sick or in a high risk group, you should discourage trick-or-treaters from coming to your door by turning off your porch light and other Halloween decoration lights on Halloween night.
  • Please respect your neighbors and your community: Everyone is navigating the COVID-19 pandemic to the best of their abilities and has different comfort levels about what is safe to do. Your local community or your neighbors may be more restrictive than these CDPH guidelines, and we ask that you respect your neighbors’ wishes and concerns
  • Thank you for helping to keep our community safe and healthy during this holiday season!

When Will We Reopen Schools for Live Instruction?

Rep. Kilmer to hold Town Hall Meeting in Forks | Forks Forum

Although our goal of a phased return to in-person instruction was proposed for October 26, 2020, our District will take extra precautions and postpone the reopening because COVID-19 transmission rates in our boundaries are still too high. We want to give you notice now of our decision. We remain committed to a safe return when the data in our boundary area supports resuming at least a hybrid form of in-person instruction. In the meantime, we will continue working with our bargaining groups and stakeholders to ensure a safe reopening at a future date.

If you were unable to view the Virtual Town Hall meeting from Monday with Superintendent Dr. Escobedo, you can access the recording by clicking here or paste the following into your browser: https://bit.ly/3lldFQi .

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conference - February 12, 2020 | Salem Hills High School

Parent-Teacher Conferences are on October 15-22. Students will only have 2 hours of live synchronous instruction during these days. Your child’s teacher will give you a more detailed schedule. Please sign up for a virtual conference to review your child’s progress, goals, and initial assessments in math and language arts. All meetings will occur virtually, as there are not visitors allowed on campus at this time.

Escobedo, you can access the recording by clicking here or paste the following into your browser: https://bit.ly/3lldFQi
