Our goal is to inform families of school events and provide important announcements for the coming week. Please sign up to follow this blog with your email. The weekly blog will be sent out at the beginning of each week through CVESD School Messenger, ClassDojo, Loma Verde’s Facebook page, and Twitter. Thank you for reading the weekly blog.
One way to help your child succeed in school is to read to and with them every day. Did you know it’s important to read to your children all the way through elementary school? Here’s a great article that explains why.
COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL
All parents are encouraged to join us for first Coffee with The Principal on Thursday, August 22 at 8:30 a.m. in our auditorium. You won’t want to miss it! Our counselor, Mr. Diego Arias, will share what we are doing to ensure our students’ social-emotional health in school. Spanish translation and childcare will be provided. Please join us for this important information.
PICTURE DAY
Picture day is scheduled for Monday, August 26. Flyers with details about Picture Day will be sent home this week. We are using Lifetouch as our photography vendor this year. Students need to wear their school uniform on picture day.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
It is hard to believe that our Parent-Teacher Conferences are in just a few weeks. Please mark your calendars and plan for our modified schedule.
Conferences begin Thursday, September 12 and end Friday, September 20. Remember, during the conference period, kindergarten through 6th-grade students are dismissed at 1:00 p.m. Conference information will be sent home by your child’s teacher.
Did you Know?
In California, State Superintendent of Instruction Tom Torlakson hosted a forum in May to encourage agencies to work together to fight chronic absence. Also this year, the state enacted a new school funding formula which will require every school district to monitor its chronic absence rate.
Attendance is important. It is one of the indicators the state now looks at along with academics and suspensions rates. Please be sure to make vacations plans during the 185 days that your child(ren) are not in school. You can find the 2019-20 and 2020-21 Calendars below. Students will perfect attendance and no tardies during the 1st quarter will be invited to a special inflatable slide party at school on the last day of the quarter.
PERFECT ATTENDANCE FOR THE WEEK!
Congratulations to Mrs. Snell’s class for having 100% attendance last week! Loma Verde’s overall attendance was 95.9% last week. Our goal is at least 98% every week. Be sure to bring your child to school every day and on time. Every minute of every day counts!

August 8, 2019, during Curriculum Night. The Loma Verde SSC bylaws specify that parent representatives serve a 2-year term. We have openings for next year’s Council for 2 parent representatives. Any parent/guardian whose child attends our school and is not a paid employee on staff at the school site is eligible to be a SSC parent representative. The SSC usually meets one Tuesday a month from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. If you would like to place your name on the ballot for parent representative, please submit your name to Mrs. Watson. Include a short bio telling a little bit about yourself and why you are interested in serving on the School Site Council by Tuesday, August 6, 2019.

We are excited to offer our Morning Mileage Club before school at 7:30 am daily starting August 5. We encourage all students to participate! It is a great way to get some exercise with your friends before school. Last year, we had numerous students run the equivalent of a marathon before school! If you are on campus between 7:30 and 7:55, please join us for the Morning Mileage Club! Also, if you are a parent/guardian and would like to volunteer to help scan as students run laps, please let us know. We can’t wait to see you there!
