Student Holidays: Spring Break 2021 - OFTC

Spring Break – No School

March 29 – April 2, 2021

Note: NO food distribution at Loma Verde on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

The staff and I are excited to welcome our students back on campus! We look forward to seeing our Loma Verde Wildcats in person. Safety protocols are in place. The in-person, hybrid instructional model for students will begin on Monday, April 12. We are finalizing rosters for in-person AM and PM cohorts and distance learning. You will be notified during the week of April 5 of your child’s hybrid/distance learning class.

Please note that this change to hybrid instruction may require many students, even those continuing in Distance Learning, to be re-assigned to a different teacher. Our school team tried its very best to accommodate parent preferences.  Please know that despite our best efforts, we may have offered some families an option that does not match their preferences. We will create a waitlist for in-person instruction. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility.

The week of April 5th to April 9th is a teacher preparation week. This means that all students will receive 180 minutes of synchronous, online instruction from their current teacher, but will receive the remaining required instructional minutes asynchronously online.

Loma Verde TK-6th Grade Hybrid Schedule Beginning April 12, 2021

Hybrid Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

We have identified arrival and dismissal procedures for employees and students. Students will be enter at one of two places:

  • Front of the school – walkers or drop off
  • Back north west corner by the park – walkers only

If you are driving, cars must enter by the Loma Verde Rec center parking lot on Loma Lane and follow the bus loop next to school. Do not enter in the exit driveway and please following traffic signs. Preschool, TK and Kinder will pull up next to the school in the 1st drop off lane.  1st-6th graders will be dropped off in a 2nd lane in front of the school.  Staff will direct cars where to go.  Thank you for your patience with our new arrival and dismissal policy.

ARRIVAL

To ensure safety for everyone there is a 10-minute arrival time window for each cohort.  For the AM Cohort students may arrive anytime between 8:00 AM– 8:10 AM. For the PM Cohort students may arrive between 12:00 PM – 12:10 PM. Students should not arrive before this time as there is no supervision.

  • Please always keep younger siblings in strollers or with you.
  • NO PETS!
  • Please remember to stay 6 foot apart from others.
  • Students may report to campus either by vehicle drop off or walking.
  • No one other than staff and students will be allowed on the campus.

DISMISSAL

Students will be dismissed from the AM Cohort at 10:45 PM or at 2:45 PM for the PM Cohort. Walkers will be dismissed 5 minutes early to exit through the front gate or back gate near the park. If they are waiting for a sibling to walk with, students will meet outside room 403 by the large tree. Students waiting for a car ride will line up on campus, inside the gate to wait for their ride. Parent will have a sign with their child’s name on it displayed inside the car window. (Signs will be given out to hybrid students the week of April 5-9.) When a parent drives up, the student will be called to the front side walk to enter the car. Please make sure that anyone picking up your child is listed on the emergency card. Staff will assist with dismissal and traffic. Please be on time to pick up your child from the hybrid AM or PM cohort.

Messages From the Superintendent

Hybrid Model Begins on April 12th

Please see the letter below from our Superintendent of schools, Dr. Francisco Escobedo:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is my pleasure to share our District’s official notice to you that our in-person, hybrid instructional model for students will begin on Monday, April 12. CVESD teachers who are working in the in-person hybrid instructional model will return to their respective schools on Monday, April 5. This ensures teachers and staff have appropriate time to prepare for the transition from distance learning to in-person instruction. Reopening details will be shared at a Virtual Town Hall Meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23.

As you know, parents can select the in-person hybrid model or keep their child(ren) in distance learning for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. At a special meeting on Tuesday, a Board of Education majority noted that our District is on track to move forward with in-person instruction because we have met the conditions laid out in the Memorandum of Understanding with Chula Vista Educators, the bargaining group that represents teachers. A key condition for reopening was that San Diego County return to the Red Tier, as defined in the state’s tiered system. This week, County officials announced that COVID-19 case rates lowered enough for the state to re-designate San Diego from the most restrictive Purple Tier to the less restrictive Red Tier—paving the way for school districts across the region to reopen or expand in-person instruction.

Starting school in a hybrid format ensures that a limited number of students are on campus at any one time, allowing protocols such as physical distancing to be more easily implemented. In CVESD, the hybrid model consists of in-person instruction in an a.m./p.m. format Monday-Thursday, with Fridays reserved for distance learning.

It would be the first time that our schools have reopened to daily instruction since the pandemic forced school closures a year ago. I am indeed excited to welcome back students to in-person instruction. I know so many staff and families are excited to return as well. I also recognize the anxiety that some have about a return of even some of our students to campus. I want to reassure you that our District is going above and beyond when it comes to safety protocols and requirements. A hybrid instructional format is not a perfect solution. But it is an important step in restoring educational equity to our community. Students and families have suffered immensely during the pandemic from the prolonged school closures. Now, it is time to heal. It is time for all of us to recover and rebuild together.

Thank you for your patience, resiliency and grit in these extraordinary 12 months since we had to close our schools.

Warm regards,

Francisco Escobedo, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Transition to Hybrid Instruction Approved

As you know, our CVESD school board authorized the transition to hybrid instruction at the CVESD board meeting on 3/2/2021. We do not have an exact date for the start of hybrid instruction yet, but they did announce it would be no sooner than April 5th. Once we have a specific return date, we will share it via all our communication platforms. We have been busy preparing for the transition to hybrid instruction for many months. We are in the process of finalizing our Hybrid In Person Rosters and our Distance Learning Rosters. Our hybrid schedule, will be 8:10 to 10:45 M-TH or 12:10-2:45 M-TH with all Distance Learning on Friday. If your child is staying in the Distance Learning format, their schedule will remain fairly consistent. We are using the preferences you submitted for either In Person or Distance Learning on the survey you completed at the end of January. If you have changed your mind since then, and have not already emailed me about that change, please email me as soon as possible. We can make adjustments to rosters as space allows. Our goal is to finalize rosters in the next week. My email address is bree.watson@cvesd.org, please feel free to email me if you have any questions or if you have changed your preference. LCAP Thought Exchange

The Chula Vista Elementary School District invites you to contribute to “ThoughtExchange,” our interactive survey, which helps us understand what is working well and how we can improve. Your input is key to guiding our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), a three-year plan that describes the District’s goals, actions, services, and expenditures that support positive student outcomes.

Franklin Downtown Partnership: Share Your Input

about the LCAP necessarily revolve around resource allocation and target students’ classroom learning opportunities—particularly those of English Learners, students of poverty (including homeless), and foster youth. School districts such as ours receive additional funding based on the number of low-income, English learner, and foster youth that we serve. Development of our plan is dependent on the input of stakeholders that include students, parents, staff, employee representative groups, and community organizations.

Please take a few minutes to respond to open-ended questions about what we’re doing well and where we can improve in our goals, actions and services. If you have not already done so, please click here to access or cut and paste the following into your web browser: https://tejoin.com/884705022

Stakeholders begin by sharing their thoughts. Then, they review and “star” the thoughts of others before discovering what the community values.

We would like to remind our entire community that following the four pillars of health can prevent the spread of COVID-19. As we prepare for the eventual return of some students to campus in phases, our District and school will be enforcing the four core principles (also known as four pillars) for the prevention of COVID-19. These include: 1) Daily Health Screenings, 2) Mask Wearing, 3) Physical Distancing, and 4) Frequent Hand Washing.
