Transition to Hybrid Instruction Approved

As you know, our CVESD school board authorized the transition to hybrid instruction at the CVESD board meeting on 3/2/2021. We do not have an exact date for the start of hybrid instruction yet, but they did announce it would be no sooner than April 5th. Once we have a specific return date, we will share it via all our communication platforms. We have been busy preparing for the transition to hybrid instruction for many months. We are in the process of finalizing our Hybrid In Person Rosters and our Distance Learning Rosters. Our hybrid schedule, will be 8:10 to 10:45 M-TH or 12:10-2:45 M-TH with all Distance Learning on Friday. If your child is staying in the Distance Learning format, their schedule will remain fairly consistent. We are using the preferences you submitted for either In Person or Distance Learning on the survey you completed at the end of January. If you have changed your mind since then, and have not already emailed me about that change, please email me as soon as possible. We can make adjustments to rosters as space allows. Our goal is to finalize rosters in the next week. My email address is bree.watson@cvesd.org, please feel free to email me if you have any questions or if you have changed your preference. If you would like additional information about Reopening, please read the district handbook for parents in both English and Spanish: CLICK HERE.

Computer Devices & WIFI to Loan Families

We recommend each student have their own laptop with a camera and microphone for Distance Learning. Some tablets have compatibility issues with the Microsoft Teams platform and online learning programs.
If your child needs a device or wifi hotspot, please complete and submit this form below, so we can plan and prepare the devices for distribution. If you do not need a device or hotspot, please do not fill out this form. Please fill out a form for each child who needs a device. Do not fill out for a child who previously received a device. We will notify you when you device and/or WIFI hotspot are ready.

LCAP Thought Exchange
The Chula Vista Elementary School District invites you to contribute to “ThoughtExchange,” our interactive survey, which helps us understand what is working well and how we can improve. Your input is key to guiding our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), a three-year plan that describes the District’s goals, actions, services, and expenditures that support positive student outcomes.

about the LCAP necessarily revolve around resource allocation and target students’ classroom learning opportunities—particularly those of English Learners, students of poverty (including homeless), and foster youth. School districts such as ours receive additional funding based on the number of low-income, English learner, and foster youth that we serve. Development of our plan is dependent on the input of stakeholders that include students, parents, staff, employee representative groups, and community organizations.
Please take a few minutes to respond to open-ended questions about what we’re doing well and where we can improve in our goals, actions and services. If you have not already done so, please click here to access or cut and paste the following into your web browser: https://tejoin.com/884705022
Stakeholders begin by sharing their thoughts. Then, they review and “star” the thoughts of others before discovering what the community values.
Learn more here about the state’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), which is California’s mechanism for allocating funding for K-12 schools, and how it relates to the LCAP.

Parent Teacher Conferences 3/18-19 and 3/22-25

Our Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences begin Thursday, March 18 and end Thursday, March 25. Teachers will be sending home information for you to sign up for your child’s conference. Please make every effort to attend the scheduled conference to discuss your child’s progress. Our teachers will share very important information and you will have an opportunity to ask questions about your child’s progress this school year.
Please remember that all Kinder-6th grade students will have 2 hours of synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers on conference days. The other time will be asynchronous classroom activities (SeeSaw, SmartsAnts, Achieve3000, iReady Math, etc).

School Average Attendance for the week of March 7-12, 2021 = 93%
Be sure your child attends school every day, on time, and for the entire class period. Attendance is a very important part of Distance Learning! Cameras should be on and students need to participate. Students are also required to complete their “asynchronous work” assignments that are done when they are not meeting live with the teacher.

Top attendance is for the following classes:
- 98% 3rd Grade Ms. Lee
- 100% 3rd Grade Mrs. Josa
- 97.2% 3rd/4th Grade Ms. Martinez
- 97.3% 5th Grade Mr. Cooper

The CVESD Caring Crew and YOU!

We would like to remind our entire community that following the four pillars of health can prevent the spread of COVID-19. As we prepare for the eventual return of some students to campus in phases, our District and school will be enforcing the four core principles (also known as four pillars) for the prevention of COVID-19. These include: 1) Daily Health Screenings, 2) Mask Wearing, 3) Physical Distancing, and 4) Frequent Hand Washing.
Parent & Youth Emotional Support Hotline
A group called Parents Anonymous recently launched the California Parent & Youth Helpline and Online Parents Anonymous® Support Groups in response to COVID-19 to provide free emotional support to parents and youth in any language, 7 days a week 8 am to 8 pm at 1-855-4A PARENT (or 1-855-427-2736).
