We had a fantastic first week of distance learning, despite a few minor technical issues. Thank you to our parents, students, and staff for persevering through the first week distance learning. The amazing family support, passionate teachers, and helpful staff make Loma Verde Elementary School a safe and outstanding place for children to thrive!

School starts for all students at 8:00 am and attendance will be taken throughout the day, every school day.  Starting on September 8th, all kindergarten through 5th grade students will have a break from 10:00 to 10:15 am. The school’s lunch time is 12:15 to 1:00 pm each day.  Your child’s teacher should have sent you an email regarding the detailed schedule for their class, but in general all students have a schedule similar to this:

Please contact the school office if you are not getting the School Messenger emails and texts. We also recommend you “Follow Our Blog” by entering in your email in the field to the right of this information if you are viewing on a computer or at the bottom of the blog if you viewing it on a phone. This way, you will receive automatic updates as they are released.

Your child’s teacher will contact you about picking up distance learning supplies and packet distribution. If you missed picking up items needed for distance learning instruction, please email your child’s teacher to arrange for an alternate time to get the materials.

iReady Math Assessment Begins Sept. 8 for 1st-6th Graders

Beginning September 8th, students in grades 1 through 6 will be taking the i-Ready math diagnostic assessment. i-Ready allows your child’s teacher to meet your child exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.

Please make every effort not to help your child on this assessment. Some questions may be easy while others may be tough. While it may be tempting to help your child with some of the problems they will see on the assessment, we need the test results to be an accurate reflection of what your child knows. Encourage your student to take each question seriously. Emphasize “thinking before clicking,” because just clicking through will not be a productive use of their time nor reflect what your child actually knows. Remind your child to read directions and questions in their entirety, use paper and pencil to solve math problems if needed, and use the tools that appear at the bottom of the screen. The results will reveal what your child can do independently. In order to help your child get re-energized, games may be embedded throughout the test, so don’t be surprised if you see your child playing an engaging math game during his/her assessment time. We appreciate your support!

Here are some tips that will help your child be successful:

  • Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before taking the assessment
  • Be sure your child eats a good breakfast the morning before taking the assessments
  • Designate a quiet area for working, free of distractions
  • Use headphones
  • Encourage your child do their best and take their time

Computer Devices & WIFI to Loan Families

We recommend each student have their own laptop with a camera and microphone for Distance Learning.  Some tablets have compatibility issues with the Microsoft Teams platform and online learning programs.

If your child needs a device or wifi hotspot, please complete and submit this form below, so we can plan and prepare the devices for distribution.  If you do not need a device or hotspot, please do not fill out this form. Please fill out a form for each child who needs a device.  Do not fill out for a child who previously received a device.  We will notify you when you device and/or WIFI hotspot are ready. Please note, the district is currently out of hotspots and more have ordered. You will be notified when they arrive.

If you checked out a computer and it is not working, please email the principal, Mrs. Watson, so we can repair or replace the device: You can also bring the device and charger back to school between 7:30 and 3:45 to drop if off for repairs.

Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)

Our VAPA teachers are very excited to begin classes with your students beginning the week of September 8th. Students in kindergarten through 6th grade will have 40 minutes of art, music, and P.E every 2 weeks. Your child’s teacher will share the day and time for VAPA classes.

School Site Council and ELAC

Loma Verde Elementary School needs parents and guardians to support our school through important parent groups, such as the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), the School Site Council (often referred to as SSC), and the English Language Advisory Committee (often referred to as ELAC). The site-based groups work with the Principal, staff, and other community members to ensure that community voice is part of the shared decision making process of a public school.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) is composed of five elected parent/community representatives and five elected staff/teacher representatives. The role of the SSC is to develop, approve, and monitor the School Plan for Student Achievement.

With a few exceptions, meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month. Until further notice, all meetings will be held online. All parents and staff are welcome to attend. Only official members of the SSC may vote in meetings. Council members serve for two year terms.

We have several open parent/community representative positions open this school year. Please fill out the form below if you wish to nominate yourself and serve on the Loma Verde School Site Council. Nominations are due by 3 pm on September 11th. Voting will take place the following week. Please use the link below to nominate:

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)


Loma Verde’s next ELAC Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 9th at 3 pm and will be held online. Public elections for voting members will be held at this meeting. Please email for the meeting link at least one day prior to access this online meeting.


The district will continue to conduct all meetings online until further notice, including all DAC/DELAC meetings. DAC is the District Advisory Committee. DELAC is the District English Learner Advisory Committee. Both of these groups are designed to support and inform parents in a shared communication setting with the district. Parents learn with other parents and district leadership at the DAC/DELAC meetings.

The next DAC/DELAC Meeting will be on September 15th from 12 noon to 2 pm.

Below is a schedule of all DAC/DELAC meetings for the upcoming school year. I recommend all parents download this schedule if they are interested in learning more about theses district meetings.


Childcare at Loma Verde: Distance Learning Support Program

Changes in child care laws coming to Missouri this month

Loma Verde will have childcare provided by the YMCA STRETCH program on site starting September 8 from 7:30-4:00. We understand that there are many families with childcare concerns, but we only have a limited number of spots (30) available. Families have been notified if they have been selected to receive childcare based on the CVESD survey that went out in July. If you are in need of childcare for distance learning, please notify the principal, Bree Watson, at so you can be added to the wait list. If a space opens up, we will contact the families that qualify and are next on the wait list.

CVESD Meal Service Continues for Loma Verde Students


Our Loma Verde meal service will take place from 12:00-2:00 once a week on Thursdays for students. Pick up the 5 days worth of meals at the front of the school.
