LABOR DAY HOLIDAY
Loma Verde Elementary will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in observance of the Labor Day Holiday. Enjoy the long weekend! We look forward to seeing all our Wildcats on Tuesday, September 3rd!

The Kids Heart Challenge is Coming!
Our school is getting ready to kick off the Kids Heart Challenge with the American Heart Association. Meet our Heart Heroes this year that will help us fight heart disease and help others! You can get a jump start by registering online today! Visit www.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge and search Loma Verde Elementary to join our team and receive the FREE Heart Hero Wristband! Get recognized with Perrie, Knox, and all the heart heroes right away at our heart health assembly on September 3rd when you raise lifesaving donations. Our Kick-off Assembly is Tuesday, September 3rd at 8:15 for kindergarten-3rd graders and at 9:00 for 4th-6th graders. Parents are welcome at the assembly, but please sign-in at the office first. Our Kids Heart Challenge event is on September 20th.
PTO Meeting – September 5th 2:45
Join us on Thursday, September 5th at 2:45 for our next PTO Meeting. We will be discussing volunteer opportunities, the upcoming PTO Movie Night on September 13th, and planning for the Fall Festival.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
It is hard to believe that our Parent-Teacher Conferences start next week. Please mark your calendars and plan for our modified schedule.
Conferences begin Thursday, September 12 and end Friday, September 20. Remember, during the conference period, kindergarten through 6th-grade students are dismissed at 1:00 p.m. Conference information will be sent home by your child’s teacher.
A.G.E. Preview Night
CVESD is having Parent Preview nights for students in grades 4th-6th to preview Adolescent Growth Education materials. The first preview night is Sept. 16 at 6:00 pm. Please click on the link for more information: age-parent-preview-letter-eng-spanish-2019.

LOME VERDE OBSERVATIONS and CLASSROOM VISITATION
Parents are welcome to visit Loma Verde classrooms. California State Law (Education Code 49091.10b) requires all visitors, including parents, to report at the office and sign in. Please be prepared to present a valid driver’s license or identification card, upon request, to scan into our computer Raptor system so that a visitor sticker may be printed out. To ensure minimal interruptions of the regular classroom program, Loma Verde requests that parents contact the office and teacher to schedule an observation at least 24 hours in advance and limit the visit to less than one hour, one day a week. If a conference is desired, an appointment should be set with the teacher for a time before school, after school, or when coverage for the teacher can be arranged. In accordance with Education Code 51512 no electronic listening or recording device may be used by any person in a classroom without the teacher and principal’s permission. MORNING MILEAGE CLUB PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are excited to offer our Morning Mileage Club before school from 7:30-7:55 a.m. We encourage all students to participate! It is a great way to get some exercise with your friends before school. Last year, we had numerous students run the equivalent of a marathon before school! If you are on campus between 7:30 and 7:55, please join us for the Morning Mileage Club! Also, if you are a parent/guardian and would like to volunteer to help scan as students run laps, please let us know. THANK YOU!
PERFECT ATTENDANCE FOR THE WEEK!
Congratulations to Ms. Munoz-Benavente’s and Mrs. Jimenez’s classes for having 100% attendance last week! Loma Verde’s overall attendance was 96.8% last week. Our goal is at least 98% every week. Be sure to bring your child to school every day and on time. Every minute of every day counts!
Attendance is important. It is one of the indicators the state now looks at along with academics and suspensions rates. Please be sure to make vacations plans during the 185 days that your child(ren) are not in school. You can find the 2019-20 and 2020-21 Calendars below. Students will perfect attendance and no tardies during the 1st quarter will be invited to a special inflatable slide party at school on the last day of the quarter.

One way to help your child succeed in school is to read to and with them every day. Did you know it’s important to read to your children all the way through elementary school? 
All parents are encouraged to join us for first Coffee with The Principal on Thursday, August 22 at 8:30 a.m. in our auditorium. You won’t want to miss it! Our counselor, Mr. Diego Arias, will share what we are doing to ensure our students’ social-emotional health in school. Spanish translation and childcare will be provided. Please join us for this important information.

August 8, 2019, during Curriculum Night. The Loma Verde SSC bylaws specify that parent representatives serve a 2-year term. We have openings for next year’s Council for 2 parent representatives. Any parent/guardian whose child attends our school and is not a paid employee on staff at the school site is eligible to be a SSC parent representative. The SSC usually meets one Tuesday a month from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. If you would like to place your name on the ballot for parent representative, please submit your name to Mrs. Watson. Include a short bio telling a little bit about yourself and why you are interested in serving on the School Site Council by Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
