Congratulations to Mrs. Johnson’s class for having 100% attendance last week! Way to go! Loma Verde’s overall attendance was 96.6% last week. Our goal is 98%. Be sure to bring your child to school every day and on time. Every minute of every day counts!

LOMA VERDE FAMILY FUN NIGHT COMING SOON!

Join us for a fun family event on Friday, April 26 from 3:00-5:30. The San Ysidro High School Mariachi and Baile Folklorico will be here from 3:30-5:30 on the blacktop. Each student will have art on display from our VAPA program. We will have food and drinks for sale and many community resources on campus.  Bring your chairs/blankets.  Outside food/drinks are allowed.  We hope to see all of you!

PARENTING CLASS ON HEALTHY EATING

Parents met last week to learn about nutritional labels and healthy eating.  The MyPlate_mini_poster is a good reminder about eating different types of healthy foods.  Thank you to Dino School for bringing this helpful information to our school!

The District Approved calendars for the next two school years are out.  Please consider dates when planning family vacations.  It is imperative that our school brings down our rate of Chronic absenteeism. 2019-20 Calendar   2020-21 Calendar .

SATURDAY SCHOLARS RETURNS!

Does your 4th, 5th or 6th-grade child have any interest in the medical field? Then Saturday Scholars is just the program for your curious student.  It is held every Saturday for five weeks (April 20, 27, May 4, 11 and 18).  Your child has the opportunity to learn about the science of medicine and details about possible medical careers.  Enrollment is limited to 30 students and all accepted applicants MUST attend all 5 sessions.  Applications are available in the office and are due this week.  For any questions, please see Mrs. Romero in Room 602.

Friendly Reminder

Parents please make appointments with teachers to discuss concerns, address questions, etc. When teachers are entering their classrooms or are in the classroom providing instruction, this time is to be uninterrupted.  Also, during the Monday morning blacktop assembly, teachers are on duty and expected to monitor the behaviors of their class.  This is not the appropriate time for a parent/teacher conference.  Thank you.

Quarter 4 begins Monday, April 8th and is a MINIMUM DAY with 1:00 dismissal.

MINI MERMAID RUNNING CLUB REGISTRATION

Registration for Mini Mermaids Running Club is now open. Please go to https://mmrc.regfox.com/loma-verde and register online. Once you have registered online your child will need to bring $5 to their coach at the start of training to help cover the cost of the program. Spaces are limited as this program has grown in popularity over the years so please do not wait until the April 12 deadline. This program is open to girls grades 2-6.  See Ms. Lee with questions.

LOMA VERDE GARDEN IMPROVEMENTS!

A BIG thank you to the South Bay Community Services and YMCA cleaning up our garden and planting vegetables over Spring Break! Close to 40 volunteers were involved in this Cesar Chavez Day of service.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

Our Spring Parent Teacher Conferences continue this week. They began on Thursday, March 14 and end on Thursday, March 21.  Please make every effort to attend the scheduled conference to discuss your child’s progress.  Our teachers and students will share very important information and you will have an opportunity to ask questions about your child’s progress this school year.

THOUGHT EXCHANGE

It’s not too late to share your input! The deadline has been extended until March 22.  You should have received an email asking you to participate in the idea sharing process.  Please share your thoughts with Thoughtexchange to help us better understand what is important to you, whether in our school or the District. This process enables us to hear your ideas and learn about your priorities.  This really does make a difference for our schools!  Click here to share your thoughts.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR IS THIS WEEK!

• Preview day is Monday, March 18th during class time.
• Book Fair opens on Monday, March 18th at 1:05.
• It will be open Tuesday-Friday before and after school.
• There is a new option called eWallet where parents can add money to an account for the student to spend.  Any remaining funds will be placed back into the account after the book fair ends.  Click here to see a promotional video about the eWallet.

SPRING BREAK

It is hard to believe our next break is right around the corner! Spring Break begins on March 25 and continues through April 5.  Students will return to school on April 8.  It will be a minimum day. We hope you enjoy the time off with your children.  We encourage all our students to continue reading and practicing math over the break.  Also, you may want to have your child practice a few sample test items to help prepare for CAASPP testing in May: Practice Tests. Thank you for your support!

2018-19 School Calendar Year Round – Board Approved

Parent/Teacher Conferences begin this Thursday, March 14 – 21. Minimum Day Schedule begins THURSDAY until the end of this quarter.  Students are dismissed at 1:00 p.m. each day.

Loma Verde Choir performed the National Anthem at the San Diego Gulls vs. Colorado Eagles hockey game last Friday.

6th grader Samantha Garcia was recognized at the CVESD Board Meeting last week for taking 1st place in the 6th-grade Speech Contest.

Parents learned about community resources and the TB outbreak from a community nurse during Coffee with the Principal last Wednesday.

Some classes earned the privilege to eat lunch on the lawn with their friends because of excellent lunchtime behavior.

ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

We will hold our next English Learner Advisory Committee Meeting on Monday,  March 11 at 8:15 am in the auditorium.  We will share information about the ThoughExchange share process.  In addition, we will discuss parent conferences and answer any questions you may have.  All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Loma Verde A to Z Salad Bar Lunch for Students & Parents

Parent and guardians are welcome to join us on 3/14 during your child’s lunch for the “Apples to Zucchini Salad Bar”.  Parent must sign into the office and obtain a visitor pass prior to eating with their child.  We will have picnic tables on the lawn near the auditorium.  Parents can also bring blankets.  There will be various community resources for families.  Students will eat for free.  Adults cost is $4.00.  Non-student children ages 1-12 are $2.50. (Cash only).  No outside food will be allowed for this event. Please join us!

Free Parenting Classes for parents of children ages 6-12 offered by Jewish Family Services and South Bay Community Services. This is a great class and resource! Childcare provided.  This class is offered in Spanish.  Call the number listed for more information and to register.  Call the number below for information on classes offered in English.
