The school office is open from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.  Please note:  If you have not done Residency Verification Renewal, your child has not been placed in a class.  Please be sure to do this to ensure a smooth first day for you and your child(ren). July 22 at 8:00 am is the First Day of School for students in grades K-6 and is a Minimum Day (Dismissal is 1:00 pm).

  • July 23 – 26 Kindergarten dismissal is 1:00 pm.
  • July 29 Kindergarten schedule 8:00 am – 2:30 pm Monday – Thursday and 8:00 pm – 1:00 pm on Fridays.

 

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. Drop off and pick up students only in the drop-off zone.
2. If you must leave your car, park in the parking lot, not the bus loop.
3. NO Dogs during arrival and dismissal.
4. Please do not park in RESERVED spaces.
5. Students must walk bikes on the sidewalk.
6. Students not picked up by 2:45 pm (1:15 pm on minimum days) will be escorted to the office and must sign in.  Persons picking up the child must come to the office to sign him/her out.
7. For everyone’s safety BE PATIENT, KIND, and CONSIDERATE.

 

SSCWANTED! School Site Council (SSC) Parent Representatives! 

Are you interested in serving on our school governance committee?   Nominations will be taken July 22 through July 26, 2019.  Please leave your name and contact information with the school office.  Elections will take place Monday, July 29.  Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, July 30 at 3:00.

  • Meetings only 6 times a year on Tuesdays at 3:00 pm
  • Be a part of the decision making on the school budget
  • Be a part of the decision making on school achievement
  • No experience necessary

  • Volunteering
  • Please note that for everyone’s safety NO Visitors or Volunteers will be allowed on campus until August 5.  Volunteers must attend one of the Volunteer In-services on July 25.

CURRICULUM NIGHT

Thursday, August 8 – 5:30-7:15  TK-6th grade Parent Curriculum Information Meetings in the classrooms.  We strongly encourage everyone to attend as important information will be shared.  It is also a great time to meet your child’s teacher and visit the classrooms.  There are 2 sessions with repeated information.

welcome back to school

Welcome to the 2019-20 School Year!

The staff and I cannot wait to welcome you back for the 2019-20 school year!  We are continuing to improve our campus.  We have a new cafeteria serving line, painted shade arbors and doors, new library/Maker Space (under construction) and a very clean campus!

 

Here are some important dates for the beginning of the school year.

Thursday, July 11 – School office reopens from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.  Please note:  If you Image result for residency verificationhave not done Residency Verification Renewal, your child has not been placed in a class.  Please be sure to do this to ensure a smooth first day for you and your child(ren). Monday, July 22 at 8:00 am is the First Day of School for students in grades Kinder-6th and is a Minimum Day (Dismissal is 1:00 pm).   As a reminder, the parking lot is busy in the morning so give yourself plenty of time!

  • All incoming Kindergarten students will report to the classroom at 8:00.  Please note that Kinders will be dismissed to go home with their parents at 1:00 pm.  Kindergarten students will also be on a Minimum Day schedule during the first week of school (dismissal at 1:00 pm).   Beginning July 29 Kindergarten students will be on the regular daily schedule (8:00 am – 2:30 pm Monday – Thursday and 1:00 pm dismissal every Friday).

On Thursday, July 25 there will be two Volunteer In-services.  You can choose either 8:30 am or 5:30 pm and find out about the school expectations, school safety, volunteering and more.  Please note that for safety reasons no visitors or volunteers are allowed on campus during the instructional day the first 2 weeks of school. If you plan on volunteering, be sure to attend one of these sessions. Visitors and volunteers will be allowed on campus beginning Monday, August 5.

imgres-4Our annual proof of residency for returning students from May 22-June 7.   All bills used to prove residency must have a date of May 22nd or later.  Please call our office at 619-420-3940 if you have any questions.  You must prove residency before your child will be placed on a class list for next year.

 

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL AND ELAC REPRESENTATIVES NEEDED!

A yellow letter was sent home two weeks ago requesting volunteers to be on various school committees.  Please complete the form and return it to the office.  We appreciate your involvement in helping our school!

The 19 Saturday Scholars students were honored at the Navy Surface Warfare Medical Institute in Balboa Park on Saturday, May 18 along with their Navy mentors for their science projects on various medical topics. It was a special ceremony for students and families.

Our Loma Verde Mini Mermaid Running Club participated in the Chula Vista Community Fun Run on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

CAASPP TESTING – GRADES 3 & 5 

Our 3rd and 5th graders will be CAASPP testing at least one part of the test this week.

Testing Reminders:

  • CELL Phones and Smart Watches will be collected by teachers during testing.
  • BE ON TIME each day!  Students who are late will have to do makeups.
  • Visitors and/or Volunteers are not allowed in the classroom during testing.
  • Classrooms will not be interrupted during testing.  Students may not leave the classroom once testing has started.  (Check doctor and dentist appointments)
  • Send a Snack Bag for your child during the testing week: Granola Bars, Crackers, Pretzels but NO CANDY, Cheetos, Taki’s (refrain from things that are messy or sticky).

We started our Morning Mileage Club five weeks ago.  We have had 337 K-6 students participate at least one day with a group total of 1,388 miles walked/run!

Here’s the breakdown by grade for the week of May 13-17: K-19 miles, 1st-56 miles, 2nd-26 miles, 3rd-30 miles, 4th-38 miles, 5th-39 miles, 6th-43 miles

TOP CLASSES for the week: Taylor-26 miles, Murdoch-24 miles, Johnson-22 miles, Polanco Campos-21 miles, Snell-19 miles.

Overall Top Classes since start date: Murdoch-117 miles, Johnson-113 miles, Polanco Campos-109 miles!

Top grade level: 1st grade with 262 miles run in 5 weeks!

If you can help out one or more mornings a week, please join us from 7:30 to 7:55.   We are looking for a few more parents to also help.  Visit track in the morning or stop by the office to see Mrs. Watson to volunteer.  Thank you!

A TEDxChulaVista Day is coming! One of our Loma Verde 6th graders will be speaking.  We wish her well during this very special event on Saturday, May 25.
