YMCA COIN DRIVE – YOUR SPARE CHANGE IS NEEDED!

Hello Families,

https://give.classy.org/LomaVerdeWildcats

We are raising money for the SouthBay YMCA. Please consider donating to this worthwhile program that benefits our students and community.

The top 2 classes that raise the most money for our COIN DRIVE/ONLINE GIVING will get a 30-minute water-themed Field Day activity.

Each classroom will have an envelope for money collection. ALL MONEY IS DUE BY FRIDAY, 3/8. Families can also donate online with the link below or use the QR code. Please include your child’s name and room number in the comments if you are donating online.

Please help us reach our goal of $500 to help support the YMCA. Every little bit helps, even a few dollars! Donations go toward the STRETCH program, camps, scholarships, and other beneficial YMCA programs for our community. You can share the link or picture with family and friends. Use the QR code to easily access the donation page. We greatly appreciate all the YMCA does to support Loma Verde families and the community. Thank you!  https://give.classy.org/LomaVerdeWildcats

We hope you enjoy the time off with your children.  We encourage all our students to continue reading and practicing math over the break.  Also, you may want to have your 3rd-6th grade child practice a few sample test items to help prepare for CAASPP testing in May: Practice Tests. Thank you for your support!

We Want to Hear From You

CVESD ThoughtExchange Survey is Now Open!

Our annual ThoughtExchange for community input on the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is now open! Please see the flyer (in English and Spanish) for more information. This year, we are asking the question: What are some things we are doing well, and what could improve the educational experience we provide students through the LCAP?

The LCAP shapes our District’s goals and guides our budgeting priorities at both the district and school levels. Please join in on the conversation from Feb. 1 through April 1, 2023. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. For more information, please visit our LCAP district page. We look forward to hearing from you!

Zone Transfers and NEW Registration Information

It’s that time again! Everyone attending Loma Verde Elementary on a CVESD Zone Transfer received an email with a specific link to renew the Zone Transfer for their child for the 2024-2025 school year.  Please complete this Zone Transfer (or ZT) process ASAP to keep your child at our school, or families risk losing their child’s spot at our school if a new family moves into the neighborhood. Please also remember that a Zone Transfer or Intradistrict Transfer may be denied if a child’s behavior or attendance needs improvement.

NEW STUDENT registration began on February 1online for the following:

  • Kindergartners who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2024.
  • NEW students in grades 1st through 6th
  • All registrations will take place online. There will be no paper packets. To register please visit our district website beginning on February 14: www.cvesd.org

Loma Verde Elementary currently has space in our Preschool, TK, and Kindergarten classes for next year, but has limited openings in our upper grades. Please contact our office for questions about space availability at (619) 479-3662.

  • Please note:
    • TK students will not need a renewal zone transfer link as they will need to register at their neighborhood school for Kindergarten. Our district’s Early Childhood Education department supports Preschool and TK enrollment. Please contact them directly at (619) 425-9600 Ext.181725.
    • The Renewal Zone Transfer Form is independent of the “New Zone Transfer Form.”
    • Students who will be transitioning to Sweetwater Union High School District for seventh grade (middle school) do not need to notify CVESD about this, but will need to complete registration processes with that district via https://www.sweetwaterschools.org/.

Loma Verde Elementary offers both the Dual Immersion (English & Spanish 50/50) program and English-only classes in Transitional Kindergarten through 6th grade. Call 619-420-3940 for more information or click here to register.

New COVID-19 Guidance Update

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and SDCOE have updated the COVID-19 guidance. The updated guidance will allow individuals to follow a more symptom-based approach than usual for other illnesses. Individuals who develop symptoms and test positive must stay home for 24 hours from the onset. A child or staff member with COVID-19 can return to school or childcare if their symptoms are mild and improving and they have had no fever for 24 hours. They are no longer required to stay home for five days. If the student or staff member with COVID-19 never developed symptoms, they may continue to attend school or a childcare setting.

Students and staff must follow the masking guidance below:

  • Student masking indoors is strongly recommended through day ten after testing positive.
  • Staff masking indoors is required through day ten after testing positive per CAL/OSHA.
  • Symptom onset is day zero. If there are no symptoms, day zero is the test collection date. Individuals who have symptoms and test positive must stay home for at least 24 hours from the onset of symptoms.
  • The potential infectious period is two days before symptoms begin or the positive test date (if no symptoms) through day ten. (Day 0 is the symptom onset date or positive test date).
  • For any additional questions, please email covtest4@cvesd.org.

New Campus Clinic Services

We are excited to let you know that as you drop off your child you will see a new Campus Clinic banner hanging up beside the school.  Campus Clinic is now offering additional services at our school such as healthcare, mental wellness, and flu testing onsite at Loma Verde Elementary.  To learn more or to sign up please hold your phone camera up to the QR code on the banner and click the link that appears.  We hope everyone will consider enrolling their children in these healthcare services.

WeTip

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is proud to introduce a new anonymous reporting program called WeTip which launched on November 1, 2023. WeTip will enhance safety at CVESD while actively empowering students, staff, and community members to maintain a safe and secure environment. The WeTip link to the anonymous report can be found here.

Key Points About WeTip:

  • CVESD encourages all students, staff, and community members to be vigilant and report concerns – if you see something, say something.
  • Whether it’s a safety concern or any situation that raises suspicion, it can be reported quickly and easily online or through a phone call or text message.
  • Reporting a tip is easy, anonymous, and confidential.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

Students need to be at school every day and on time. Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). Let’s continue to improve our attendance! If your child must be out sick, please contact the office at 619-420-3940 or

lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org to excuse the absence. Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible. If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning! Our school staff will be meeting with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent.

Week #27 TK-6th grade attendance average: 94.2% (Goal is 98% or higher)
Yearly to date (7/19/23-3/1/24) average attendance: 95.1% (Goal is 98%)

Please visit this page for helpful resources on improving your child’s attendance: https://www.cvesd.org/parents/attendance-information.

  • LET’S CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OUR ATTENDANCE AT LOMA VERDE!
  • Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
  • We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.
  • Students can arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.
  • FREE breakfast is served from 7:15 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
  • Absences that are not reported will be considered UNEXCUSED. After 3 unexcused absences and/or tardies you will receive a truancy letter.
  • If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
  • Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
  • If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning!
  • Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
  • Thank you for helping to get your child to school every day and one time!

REMINDERS
