Hello Families!

We are looking forward to a great week of learning, parent-teacher conferences, Kids’ Heart Challenge kick-off, and our PTO Family Fiesta Dance on Friday, 9/15 from 5:00-7:00. Please remind your child to follow our 3 Wildcats personal standards: Show Respect, Make Good Decisions, and Solve Problems.

9/14-15, 9/18-21 MINIMUM DAYS 1:00 DISMISSAL

Parent/Teacher Conferences Are Coming Up!

Conferences begin Thursday, September 14, and end Thursday, September 21.  Remember, during the conference period,  TK through 6th-grade students are dismissed at 1:00 p.m.  Conference information will be sent home by your child’s teacher. Please know that our teachers will make every effort to meet in person with any legal guardian or parent who has educational rights for a child and that you may also request a follow-up meeting if you have further questions or concerns. Please contact the school office at (619) 420-3940 with questions or reach out to your child’s teacher directly.

You are your child’s first and most important teacher, and we value you as partners in education. At your parent-teacher conference, your child’s teacher will review the Fall Parent Conference Form with you. This form includes present levels in Responsibility for Learning, Behavior, Reading, Writing, and Math. Your child’s teacher will also get your input on your student’s strengths and goals for the year.

CVESD Fall Break – No School 9/25-10/9, 2023

September-Attendance Awareness Month

Students need to be at school every day and on time. Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). Let’s continue to improve our attendance! If your child must be out sick, please contact the office at 619-420-3940 or lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org to excuse the absence. Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible. If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning! Our school staff will be meeting with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent.

Week #8 TK-6th grade attendance average: 94.4% (Goal is 98% or higher)
Yearly to date (7/19/23-9/8/23) average attendance: 95.9% (Goal is 98%)

Top Classes with Highest Attendance in Week #8 (9/5-9/8):

  • 99.1% Room 401 – 4th/5th grade
  • 99% Room 405 – Mrs. Youssofi – 6th grade
  • 98.5% Room 503 – Ms. Jones – 4th grade
  • 98.5% Room 202 Mrs. Kang – 3rd grade
  • 97.4% Room 203 Ms. Rincon – 2nd grade

Please visit this page for helpful resources on improving your child’s attendance: https://www.cvesd.org/parents/attendance-information.

  • LET’S CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OUR ATTENDANCE AT LOMA VERDE!
  • Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
  • We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.
  • Students can arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.
  • FREE breakfast is served from 7:15 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
  • Absences that are not reported will be considered UNEXCUSED. After 3 unexcused absences and/or tardies you will receive a truancy letter.
  • If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
  • Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
  • If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning!
  • Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
  • Thank you for helping to get your child to school every day and one time!

REMINDERS

  • EVERY MINUTE COUNTS! School starts at 8:00 a.m. Students need to be on the blacktop at this time and teachers will walk them to class. We ask all parents to exit promptly by 8:00 a.m. so that we can lock the gate after the bell.
  • Please send a water bottle with your child. Water bottles can be filled at the classroom sink or outside drinking fountains.
  • Label lunch boxes, water bottles, and sweaters with your child’s name!
  • Click here to access our 2023-2024 Loma Verde Parent/Student Handbook.

PARKING, DROP-OFF, AND PICK-UP

All of us at Loma Verde want to thank our families and community members in advance for their patience and understanding as we try to accommodate the many vehicles that arrive each morning and afternoon at our school. We strongly recommend that families use the drop-off and pick-up areas we have established at school. Drop off students only in the drop-off zone.

  • Please drive slowly!
  • If you must leave your car, park in the parking lot, not the bus loop.
  • NO dogs during arrival and dismissal.
  • Please do not park in RESERVED spaces, red curb, or the staff parking lot.
  • Red-marked areas are fire lanes and must be kept clear.
  • Students must walk bikes on the sidewalk.
  • The drop-off window is between 7:15-7:50 AM for students who are eating breakfast on campus and 7:30-8:00 AM for students who are not having breakfast at school. Students will line up on the blacktop in the morning between 7:30-8:00 AM where they will be supervised by Loma Verde staff. Each class has a designated place to line up. Teachers will pick their classes up on the blacktop at 8:00 AM. Instruction begins at 8:00 every day. Your child will be considered tardy if they are not on campus by 8:00 AM.
  • Kinder, TK, SDC preschool, and preschool parents: please follow your teacher’s instructions regarding drop-off.
  • Students who are not picked up by 2:45 pm (1:15 pm on minimum days) will be escorted to the office and must sign in.  The person picking up the child must come to the office to sign him/her out.
  • Parents may come onto campus from 2:30-2:45 PM (1:00-1:15 minimum days) to pick up their child(ren). Please pick up your child outside the classroom and leave campus promptly. Gates will be locked at 2:45 PM and 1:15 PM on minimum days.
  • For everyone’s safety BE PATIENT, KIND, and CONSIDERATE.

The Kids Heart Challenge Starts on Monday, 9/11/2023!

Kids Heart Challenge is starting on Monday, September 11th with a fun-filled assembly by the American Heart Association! Together, we’ll empower our students to have happy and healthy hearts and brains, while raising lifesaving donations to help others with special hearts. Plus, your family can learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR in Finn’s Mission! Last year, our school made an INCREDIBLE impact and we are one of the top schools not just in our school district, but in ALL of San Diego County.

Register TODAY at http://www2.heart.org/goto/lomaverdecvesd or by downloading the FREE AHA Schools App for Apple or Android.  Students who join the team early will get recognized at our assembly!

Gently Used Uniforms Needed

Has your child outgrown their school uniform from last year? The Loma Verde Health Office needs donations of clean uniform clothes to have on hand for children who need to change clothes.
