Campus Safety
Dear Parents/Guardians:

Starting on April 24, 2023, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) will start installing school security cameras at our school site as part of the School Violence Prevention Program Grant funded by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The security cameras are designed to increase safety at our school site. They will actively record to help us detect and prevent unlawful activities and ensure law enforcement can access live video surveillance seamlessly.
CVESD is committed to providing students and staff with a safe and secure learning environment. I am confident that these cameras will greatly contribute to the safety and security of our school site and help us in our ongoing efforts to prevent and address any potential threats or incidents.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school safe.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bree Watson, Principal

Loma Verde Talent Show!
The Loma’s Got Talent talent show was on Thursday, 4/20/23. Thank you to the talented students who showed off their amazing skills! Thank you to Ms. Fisher for organizing this special event for our Wildcats. We can’t wait for next year’s performance!

State & Local Testing Begins Soon!
End-of-year testing begins at the end of April. Click here to read the 2023 CAASPP Letter to CVESD Families from our CVESD Superintendent Dr. Edwardo Reyes. Please make EVERY effort to make sure your child is at school these days. Please do not plan vacations or doctors/dentist appointments during this time. Please remember the following:

- Ensure your child is well-rested
- Encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast
- To avoid any test irregularities, cell phones must be put away
- If possible leave iWatches at home
CAASPP State Testing for Grades 3-6: The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is designed to give information to teachers, students, and their families about what students know and are able to do. Please see this parent guide about the assessment that all students in California will be taking. Parent Guide Are you interested in reviewing practice questions with your student? CAASPP Testing Snacks Needed!
CAASPP Testing for 3rd-6th graders is around the corner! Let’s support these amazing students by donating snacks to help them be energized and focused during standardized testing!
Peace Patrol has volunteered to help collect and organize snack packs for some upper-grade classrooms. Since there are 9 classrooms that are in need and there will be 8 days of CAASPP testing, we need A LOT of donations (those with allergies will be given another snack). Here is what we need:

– Individually Packaged Goldfish (410 total)
– Fruit Gummy Snacks (410 total)
– Individually packaged Pretzels (410 total)
– Individually packaged Cheez-Its (410 total)
– Peppermint Puffy Mints (daily treat, so need approximately 1,620… Amazon sells in buckets of 160)
Please consider buying around 30 of one of these items. That would cover 1 class for 1 day of testing. Feel free to donate more!
When to donate: After school in the office
Dates to donate: Monday, April 17 to Monday, May 8 (this will give us time to organize for classrooms)
There will be a box for you to donate treats in the school office. Thank you for your support for all students!

April is Autism Awareness Month & Month of the Military Child

CVESD ThoughtExchange Survey is Open!

Our annual ThoughtExchange for community input on the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is now open! Please see the flyer (in English and Spanish) for more information. This year, we are asking the question: What are some things we are doing well, and what could improve the educational experience we provide students through the LCAP?
The LCAP shapes our District’s goals and guides our budgeting priorities at both the district and school levels. Please join in on the conversation from Feb. 1 through May 1, 2023. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you!

REMINDER: Students need to be at school every day, arrive on time (before 8:00 a.m.), and stay in school for the entire day.

- LET’S CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OUR ATTENDANCE AT LOMA VERDE!
- Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
- Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). If they arrive after 8:00, they will be marked tardy.
- We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.
- Students can arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.
- FREE breakfast is served from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
- If your child/children are absent it is very important to call the office to report the reason for the absence (619-420-3940). Please leave a voicemail or send an email to lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org.
- Absences that are not reported will be considered UNEXCUSED. After 3 unexcused absences and/or tardies you will receive a truancy letter.
- If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
- Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
- If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning!
- Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
- Thank you for helping to get your child to school every day and one time!

Have you changed your address, email address, or phone number since the start of the school year? Please notify the office in case we need to contact you in an emergency.

REMINDER: Do Not Bring Toys, Cards, Gadgets, or Electronics Devices to School
