Hello Loma Verde Families,

We are so grateful for our Loma Verde Elementary scholars who come to school every day, ready to learn! We are also grateful for our Loma Verde families who continually support our students, school, and staff.  We are entering the home stretch of our second quarter and our last 2 weeks are filled with mid-year assessments, spirit days, and our ACE awards. Penguin Patch Holiday Shop Starts This Week!

Our annual Loma Verde Holiday Shop will be open from 12/9-12/19 in room 501 from 1:00-3:00 PM. Students will have the opportunity to purchase gifts for their loved ones. Prices are $1-$16. A flyer and envelope will be sent home for you to include a list of people and the budget. Please help your child with the list.

Holiday Spirit Week is Coming Up!

Student Council Candy Grams for Sale!

Get into the holiday spirit with our Student Council Fundraiser, Candy Cane Gram Sale! Candy Cane Grams will be on sale by the library from December 11th to December 18th between 7:30-7:55 AM and 2:30-3:00PM (Friday, 1:00-1:30 PM). Candy Cane Grams will be sold 2 for $1.00. Thank you!

Report Cards for Quarter 2 Coming Home on 12/20/2024

The Progress Report (report card) for reporting grades is coming out on Friday, 12/20. There is a rubric utilized by teachers to identify your child’s progress toward the grade-level standards throughout the year. To assist families in understanding the reporting process, we will send home resources and a parent guide to accompany the report card. We hope you find the updates beneficial to understanding your child’s academic progress throughout the year. You may reach out to your child’s teacher if you have further questions. Reports will be sent home by the end of the quarter on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Gently Used Uniforms Needed

Has your child outgrown their school uniform? The Loma Verde Health Office needs donations of clean uniform clothes to have on hand for children who need to change clothes. If you have any clean children’s uniform shirts, shorts, pants, or skirts that you no longer need, please bring them to the health office. We are also accepting donations of new, packaged underwear for this purpose.

Volunteers Needed!

Our school loves Family Volunteers!

  • Loma Verde’s PTO needs volunteers to help run its events. Please contact the school office at (619) 420-3940 or our PTO Vice Chair Mr. Faustino Lopez at top.lopez@gmail.com with the days/times you are available.
  • We need parent and community volunteers to help monitor student safety in the parking lot around our school at drop-off and dismissal time! Our Wildcat volunteers work with school staff to serve as an extra set of eyes to keep kids safe outside of our school gates. Any interested volunteers should contact Mrs. Watson or Mrs. Icela in the office or call (619) 420-3940.

If you are able to volunteer for any of the events below, please let us know!

  • Parking Lot Safety 7:40-8:00 a.m. or 2:30-2:40 p.m.
  • Morning Running/Walking Club 7:30-7:55 a.m. Monday-Friday (club supervision needed to monitor students who run laps)

LOMA VERDE SPIRIT GEAR IS FOR SALE!

We are selling Loma Verde spirit shirts and hoodies at school. The T-shirts are $13 and the sweatshirts cost $33. (Cash only at this time.) Students can wear the spirit t-shirts and sweatshirt any day of the week OR the uniform shirt. Order forms can be picked up in the office or click here. Let’s show our school spirit, Wildcats! Please make sure to write your child’s first and last name inside their hoodie.

REMINDERS

  • EVERY MINUTE COUNTS! School starts at 8:00 a.m. Students need to be on the blacktop at this time and teachers will walk them to class. We ask all parents to exit promptly by 8:00 a.m. so that we can lock the gate after the bell.
  • Please send a water bottle with your child. Water bottles can be filled at the classroom sink or outside drinking fountains. Please send only plain water in student water bottles.
  • NO Gatorade, Prime, juice, etc., as this stains our carpets and attracts pests.
  • Label lunch boxes, water bottles, and sweaters with your child’s name.
  • Students are required to wear their school uniform every day unless a Uniform Waiver has been turned in to the office.
  • Students should not bring toys, cards, unnecessary gadgets, or electronics to school unless approved by the classroom teacher.
  • No sharing of food is allowed.
  • NO GUM AND NO CANDY, please.

Punctuality is Important

Did you know that being just 5 minutes late each day can add up to a significant loss of learning time over the school year? Every minute matters! Please take a moment to talk with your child about the importance of arriving at school on time every day.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Line-up Time: Students should be lined up on the blacktop by 7:55 am.
  • Start Time: Classes begin promptly at 8:00 am.
  • Gates Close: For the safety and security of our campus, all gates will close at 8:00 am.
  • After this time, students will need to enter through the office and will be marked tardy.

Help your child build strong habits and maximize their learning time. Being on time sets the tone for a successful day!

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
  • Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). If they arrive after 8:00, they will be marked tardy.
  • We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.
  • Students can arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.
  • FREE breakfast is served from 7:15 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
  • If your child/children are absent it is very important to call the office to report the reason for the absence (619-420-3940). Please leave a voicemail or send an email to lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org.
  • Absences that are not reported will be considered UNEXCUSED. After 3 unexcused absences and/or tardies you will receive a truancy letter.
  • If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
  • Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
  • If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning! 
  • Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
  • Thank you for helping to get your child to school every day and one time!

PARKING, DROP-OFF, AND PICK-UP

All of us at Loma Verde want to thank our families and community members in advance for their patience and understanding as we try to accommodate the many vehicles that arrive each morning and afternoon at our school. We strongly recommend that families use the drop-off and pick-up areas we have established at school. Drop off students only in the drop-off zone.

  • If you must leave your car, park in the parking lot, not the bus loop.
  • NO Dogs during arrival and dismissal.
  • Please do not park in RESERVED spaces or the staff parking lot.
  • Students must walk bikes on the sidewalk.
  • The drop-off window is between 7:15-7:50 AM for students that are eating breakfast on campus and 7:30-8:00 AM for students that are not having breakfast at school. Students will line up on the blacktop in the morning between 7:30-8:00 AM where they will be supervised by Loma Verde staff. Each class has a designated place to line up. Teachers will pick their classes up on the blacktop at 8:00 AM. Instruction begins at 8:00 every day. Your child will be considered tardy if they are not on campus by 8:00 AM.
  • Kinder, TK, SDC preschool, and preschool parents: please follow your teacher’s instructions regarding drop-off.
  • Students who are not picked up by 2:45 pm (1:15 pm on minimum days) will be escorted to the office and must sign in.  The person picking up the child must come to the office to sign him/her out.
  • Parents may come onto campus from 2:30-2:45 PM (1:00-1:15 minimum days) to pick up their child(ren). Please pick up your child outside the classroom and leave campus promptly. Gates will be locked at 2:45 PM and 1:15 PM on minimum days.
  • For everyone’s safety BE PATIENT, KIND, and CONSIDERATE.

Donations Needed!

DONATION IS NEEDED for cases of water in our classrooms.  If you are able to donate a case of water please drop it off at the school office between 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Thank you!

LOST AND FOUND

Please note that the lost and found rack will be at the front of the school by the office.   Remember to use a permanent marker to put your child’s name on jackets, sweaters, lunch bags, and water bottles. All items not picked by 12/20 will be donated.

BREAKFAST & SNACKS: FREE breakfast is available for all students from 7:15-7:55. Students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack from home to eat at morning recess. Hello Loma Verde Families,

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break filled with love, laughter, and great memories! We’re so thankful for our amazing Loma Verde Wildcats and the joy of helping them learn and grow.

Just a quick reminder—classes start back up on Monday, December 2, with a full day of learning and fun. We’ll follow our regular dismissal times. These next three weeks are packed with exciting activities, including our APEX fundraiser, which continues this week, and our APEX Fun Run on Thursday, December 5. Let’s keep the energy going as we support our school and cheer on our Wildcats!

Child Pick-Up and Drop-Off During School Hours

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure campus, we’d like to remind you of our pick-up and drop-off protocols. For the safety of all students, parents, and guardians should only pick up or drop off children at the main office. Please avoid entering the school grounds or classrooms unless you are visiting as an approved volunteer or visitor.

If you are volunteering, remember to sign in at the office and wear a badge while on campus during the school day. This helps us ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. For visitors, please note that all visits must be prearranged with the teacher and principal or designee in accordance with Board Policy 1250.

Federal Impact Survey Forms

Federal funds are provided to the school district based on the number of students enrolled in our schools whose parents/guardians reside or work on Federal Property or are on active duty in the military. Forms will be sent home on Monday, November 4, 2024. Please send the completed form by email to lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org or drop it off at the school office Monday-Friday between 7:30-4:00. Federal funds are provided to the school district based on the number of students enrolled in our schools whose parents/guardians reside or work on Federal Property or are on active duty in the military. PTO Holiday Shop is Coming!

The PTO Holiday Shop is coming back to Loma Verde this year! It will be open from Monday, December 9 through Friday, December 20 in room 403 This is an opportunity for students to purchase inexpensive gifts for their friends and family. All the proceeds go to the Loma Verde PTO and benefit all of our scholars. More information will be sent home soon! Our school loves Family Volunteers!

  • Loma Verde’s PTO needs volunteers to help run its events. Please contact the school office at (619) 420-3940 or our PTO Vice Chair Mr. Faustino Lopez at top.lopez@gmail.com with the days/times you are available.
  • We need parent and community volunteers to help monitor student safety in the parking lot around our school at drop-off and dismissal time! Our Wildcat volunteers work with school staff to serve as an extra set of eyes to keep kids safe outside of our school gates. Any interested volunteers should contact Mrs. Watson or Mrs. Icela in the office or call (619) 420-3940.

We are selling Loma Verde spirit shirts and hoodies at school. The T-shirts are $13 and the sweatshirts cost $33. (Cash only at this time.) Students can wear the spirit t-shirts and sweatshirt any day of the week OR the uniform shirt. Order forms can be picked up in the office or click here. Let’s show our school spirit, Wildcats! Please make sure to write your child’s first and last name inside their hoodie.

REMINDERS

  • EVERY MINUTE COUNTS! School starts at 8:00 a.m. Students need to be on the blacktop at this time and teachers will walk them to class. We ask all parents to exit promptly by 8:00 a.m. so that we can lock the gate after the bell.
  • Please send a water bottle with your child. Water bottles can be filled at the classroom sink or outside drinking fountains. Please send only plain water in student water bottles.
  • NO Gatorade, Prime, juice, etc., as this stains our carpets and attracts pests.
  • Label lunch boxes, water bottles, and sweaters with your child’s name.
  • Students are required to wear their school uniform every day unless a Uniform Waiver has been turned in to the office.
  • Students should not bring toys, cards, unnecessary gadgets, or electronics to school unless approved by the classroom teacher.
  • No sharing of food is allowed.
  • NO GUM AND NO CANDY, please.

  • Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
  • Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). If they arrive after 8:00, they will be marked tardy.
  • We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.

  • If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
  • Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
  • If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning! 
  • Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
