The Wildcat Way November 4-8, 2024 (Week #14)

Dear Loma Verde Families,

Thank you for your tremendous support during our Loma Verde Red Ribbon Say No to Drugs Spirit Week and our annual Halloween Parade! It was inspiring to see our community come together to celebrate healthy choices and share in the fun. (see the pictures below)

A quick reminder: regular school attendance is essential for student success, and we appreciate your efforts in making it a priority. Remember, free breakfast is available daily in the cafeteria from 7:15 to 7:55 a.m. to help students start the day off right. Let’s keep working together to improve attendance—every day counts!

If you missed our Coffee with the Principal last week on safety, click here to learn more about what we are doing as a district and how to talk with your child about safety.

We’re grateful for your partnership in education!

3rd Grade Dia de Los Muertos Alters & Student Projects

Our 3rd-grade classrooms have been learning about Dia de los Muertos in their classrooms and each student has created something related to the holiday tradition or something special to them. All classrooms on campus had an opportunity to visit the alters and projects in our MPR last Friday. Thank you, 3rd-grade teachers, Mrs. Kang, Mrs. Samayoa, and Ms. Muñoz-Benavente, for putting on such a special display of amazing projects for our school and community to see.

Red Ribbon Week and Loma Verde Spirit Week Pictures!

Last week was our Red Ribbon Week. We learned more about the importance of living a healthy, drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free life. Here is a LINK for taking the pledge together with your child. Check out a few pictures of the amazing school spirit from our theme days last week. Thank you for your GREAT participation!

To support your child’s learning, it is important to provide structured time for them to practice what they are learning in school. The more your child practices what they are learning, the better they will learn. Be sure to include time every day for READING BOOKS, Achieve 3000, or RazKids.

WeTip

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) has an anonymous reporting program called WeTip which launched in 2023. WeTip will enhance safety at CVESD while actively empowering students, staff, and community members to maintain a safe and secure environment. The WeTip link to the anonymous report can be found here.

Key Points About WeTip:

  • CVESD encourages all students, staff, and community members to be vigilant and report concerns – if you see something, say something.
  • Whether it’s a safety concern or any situation that raises suspicion, it can be reported quickly and easily online or through a phone call or text message.
  • Reporting a tip is easy, anonymous, and confidential.

Volunteers Needed!

Our school loves Family Volunteers!

  • Loma Verde’s PTO needs volunteers to help run its events. Please contact the school office at (619) 420-3940 or our PTO Vice Chair Mr. Faustino Lopez at top.lopez@gmail.com with the days/times you are available.
  • We need parent and community volunteers to help monitor student safety in the parking lot around our school at drop-off and dismissal time! Our Wildcat volunteers work with school staff to serve as an extra set of eyes to keep kids safe outside of our school gates. Any interested volunteers should contact Mrs. Watson or Mrs. Icela in the office or call (619) 420-3940.

If you are able to volunteer for any of the events below, please let us know!

  • Parking Lot Safety 7:40-8:00 a.m. or 2:30-2:40 p.m.
  • Morning Running/Walking Club 7:30-7:55 a.m. Monday-Friday (club supervision needed to monitor students who run laps)

Birthday Celebrations & CVESD Wellness Policy

CVESD has a Wellness Policy: Birthday Celebrations- No celebratory food items will be allowed on school sites during the school day in celebration of a student’s birthday. Please do not make arrangements to give students food items before or after school on the property. Some students have allergies. All it takes is for a student to eat an item with peanuts and they can become very ill in a matter of seconds. Help us keep all Wildcats safe by following the CVESD Wellness Policy.

Please Monitor What Your Child Watches on TV, Videos, and Games

Parents and guardians, you can help build a peaceful school community. Please monitor the videos, shows, and games your child is viewing and playing. Common Sense Media is a great resource for parents to learn parenting tips for the digital age. Acting out or discussing inappropriate content is not permitted at school. Play fighting or simulating a weapon is not allowed at school.
