LOCAL MEASURES TESTING – GRADES K-2

This week marks the last week of Local Measures testing for our Kindergarten through Second Grade students on reading, writing, and math.   Please ensure your children to get plenty of rest and enjoy a healthy breakfast before testing so they are able to do their very best on each assessment!

CAASPP TESTING – GRADES 3-6

Our 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th will be CAASPP testing at least one part of the test this week.

Testing Reminders:

  • CELL Phones and Smart Watches will be collected by teachers during testing.
  • BE ON TIME each day!  Students who are late will have to do makeups.
  • Visitors and/or Volunteers are not allowed in the classroom during testing.
  • Classrooms will not be interrupted during testing.  Students may not leave the classroom once testing has started.  (Check doctor and dentist appointments)
  • Send a Snack Bag for your child during the testing week: Granola Bars, Crackers, Pretzels but NO CANDY, Cheetos, Taki’s (refrain from things that are messy or sticky).

ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

elac_image7We will hold our next English Learner Advisory Committee Meeting on Monday,  May 13 at 8:15 am in the auditorium.  This is our last meeting for the year.  We will be talking about our social-emotional learning supports in place at our school.  Breakfast, childcare, and a raffle will be provided.   All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend!  Translation will be provided in Spanish.  Please join us!

 

HANOVER SURVEY

RESIDENCY VERIFICATION

Image result for residency verification clipartOur annual proof of residency for returning students begins Wednesday, May 22 and ends on Tuesday, May 28.   All bills used to prove residency must have a date of May 22nd or later.  Our office will be open for extended hours to accept documents. A flyer will be coming home this week with more information. Please call our office at 619-420-3940 if you have any questions regarding the required information.

6th GRADE PROMOTION

images-3Our Sixth Grade Promotion is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5 at 8:30 a.m.  The promotion will be held outdoors near the 500 building next to the soccer field. 6th-grade teachers will send home more details soon.

We started our Morning Mileage Club four weeks ago.  We had 327 K-6 students participate at least one day with a group total of 1,148 miles walked/run!

Here’s the breakdown by grade for the week of May 6-10: K-17 miles, 1st-56 miles, 2nd-23 miles, 3rd -32 miles, 4th-37 miles, 5th-40 miles, 6th-32 miles.

TOP CLASSES for the week: Taylor-24 miles, Polanco Campos-22 miles, Johnson-19 miles, Murdoch-17 miles, Snell-16 miles

Overall Top Classes since start date: Murdoch-94 miles, Johnson-91 miles, Polanco Campos-89 miles!

Join us for a fun family event on Friday, April 26 from 3:00-5:30. The San Ysidro High School Mariachi and Baile Folklorico will be here from 4:00-5:30 on the blacktop. Each student will have art on display from our VAPA program. We will have food and drinks for sale and many community resources on campus.  Bring your chairs/blankets.  Outside food/drinks are allowed.  We hope to see all of you!

STRETCH REGISTRATION!

The 2019-2020 STRETCH registration takes place April 15-26, 2019. Applications for the program are available in the school office. Parents must turn in the completed application directly to the STRETCH supervisor only during program hours.  A signed receipt will be issued confirming submission of their child’s application. Receipts do not guarantee enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year. The acceptance Lists will be posted in the school office and the STRETCH program area on May 17th.

The San Diego Padres will be playing the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 4th. Our Safety Patrol Colonel and Lt Colonels will be invited to go on the field on a pre-game ceremony event. Everyone is invited to order tickets and attend the game. It is going to be a fun event!

Parents met last week to learn about nutritional labels and healthy eating.  The MyPlate_mini_poster is a good reminder about eating different types of healthy foods.  Thank you to Dino School for bringing this helpful information to our school!

SATURDAY SCHOLARS RETURNS!students wanted

Does your 4th, 5th or 6th-grade child have any interest in the medical field? Then Saturday Scholars is just the program for your curious student.  It is held every Saturday for five weeks (April 20, 27, May 4, 11 and 18).  Your child has the opportunity to learn about the science of medicine and details about possible medical careers.  Enrollment is limited to 30 students and all accepted applicants MUST attend all 5 sessions.  Applications are available in the office and are due this week.  For any questions, please see Mrs. Romero in Room 602.

 

Friendly Reminder

Parents please make appointments with teachers to discuss concerns, address questions, etc. When teachers are entering their classrooms or are in the classroom providing instruction, this time is to be uninterrupted.  Also, during the Monday morning blacktop assembly, teachers are on duty and expected to monitor the behaviors of their class.  This is not the appropriate time for a parent/teacher conference.  Thank you.
