THANK YOU FOR YOUR APEX DONATIONS AND PARTICIPATION!

Thank you, Loma Verde families for your support and generocity for our APEX school fundraiser! Wow! What a great turn out for the Fun Run last week on Thursday, 12/7! Report Cards for Quarter 2 Coming Home on 12/15/2023

Progress Report (report card) for reporting grades are coming out this week Friday. There is a rubric utilized by teachers to identify your child’s progress toward the grade-level standards throughout the year. To assist with helping families understand the reporting process, we will be sending home resources and a parent guide to accompany the report card. We hope you find the updates beneficial to understanding your child’s academic progress throughout the year. Here is the English Parent Guide to Understanding Progress Reports and Spanish Parent Guide to Understanding Progress Reports . You may reach out to your child’s teacher if you have further questions. Reports will be sent home by the end of the quarter on Friday, December 15, 2023.

PTO Holiday Shop is Here!

The PTO Holiday Shop is back at Loma Verde this year! It will be open from Monday, December 4 through Friday, December 15 in the library. This is an opportunity for students to purchase inexpensive gifts for their friends and family. All the proceeds go to the Loma Verde PTO and benefit all of our scholars. We are looking for more parent volunteers to help out for an hour or two between 10:30-3:00 each day. If you can spare a couple of hours during one or more of the days, please contact the office. Thank you!

Volunteers Needed!

Our school loves Family Volunteers!

  • Loma Verde’s PTO needs volunteers to help run its events. Please contact the school office at (619) 420-3940 or our PTO Vice Chair Mr. Faustino Lopez at top.lopez@gmail.com with the days/times you are available.
  • We need parent and community volunteers to help monitor student safety in the parking lot around our school at drop-off and dismissal time! Our Wildcat volunteers work with school staff to serve as an extra set of eyes to keep kids safe outside of our school gates. Any interested volunteers should contact Mrs. Watson or Mrs. Ivonne Jimenez in the office or call (619) 420-3940.

If you are able to volunteer for any of the events below, please let us know!

  • Morning Running/Walking Club 7:30-7:55 a.m. Monday-Friday (club supervision needed to monitor students who run laps)

California Healthy Kids Survey

The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is an anonymous survey of school climate and safety, student wellness, and youth resiliency. It’s part of a comprehensive data-driven decision-making process by the California Department of Education to gather valuable information about students’ health-related behaviors, school climate, and overall well-being.

From December 4, 2023 to December 15, 2023, the CHKS will be open for all fifth-grade students who have opted in to participate. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and will be administered during class. Please speak with your child’s 5th grade teacher if you have questions.

Full House Fridays

Loma Verde Wildcats are going to pack the house on Friday, December 1st for our first #FullHouseFriday. Every Friday, there will be a fun activity to encourage students to attend. The activity will not be announced – and your child won’t want to miss it. Also, each student who attends school that Friday will earn a point for our school in our district’s attendance competition! See the flyer below for more information:

WeTip

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is proud to introduce a new anonymous reporting program called WeTip which launched on November 1, 2023. WeTip will enhance safety at CVESD while actively empowering students, staff, and community members to maintain a safe and secure environment. The WeTip link to the anonymous report can be found here.

Key Points About WeTip:

  • CVESD encourages all students, staff, and community members to be vigilant and report concerns – if you see something, say something.
  • Whether it’s a safety concern or any situation that raises suspicion, it can be reported quickly and easily online or through a phone call or text message.
  • Reporting a tip is easy, anonymous, and confidential.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

Students need to be at school every day and on time. Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). Let’s continue to improve our attendance! If your child must be out sick, please contact the office at 619-420-3940 or lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org to excuse the absence. Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible. If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning! Our school staff will be meeting with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent.

Week #18 TK-6th grade attendance average: 94.2% (Goal is 98% or higher)
Yearly to date (7/19/23-12/8/23) average attendance: 95.8% (Goal is 98%)

WAY TO GO!!!! Look at the class with attendance at 97% or better for week #18 (12/4-12/8):

  • 98.9% Room 204 – Ms. Sadler – 2nd grade
  • 97.8% Room 203 – Ms. Rincon – 2nd grade
  • 97% Room 403 – Ms. McGill – 5th grade

Please visit this page for helpful resources on improving your child’s attendance: https://www.cvesd.org/parents/attendance-information.

  • LET’S CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OUR ATTENDANCE AT LOMA VERDE!
  • Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
  • We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.
  • Students can arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.
  • FREE breakfast is served from 7:15 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
  • Absences that are not reported will be considered UNEXCUSED. After 3 unexcused absences and/or tardies you will receive a truancy letter.
  • If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
  • Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
  • If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning!
  • Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
  • Thank you for helping to get your child to school every day and one time!

REMINDERS

  • EVERY MINUTE COUNTS! School starts at 8:00 a.m. Students need to be on the blacktop at this time and teachers will walk them to class. We ask all parents to exit promptly by 8:00 a.m. so that we can lock the gate after the bell.
  • Please send a water bottle with your child. Water bottles can be filled at the classroom sink or outside drinking fountains.
  • Label lunch boxes, water bottles, and sweaters with your child’s name!
  • No toys, trading cards, fidgets, or sports equipment from home are allowed at school.

CHULA VISTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT SUMMARY OF WELLNESS POLICY (BP 5030)

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) recognizes the link between student health and learning and is committed to providing a healthy school environment that promotes student and staff wellness, proper nutrition, nutrition education, and regular physical activity. The CVESD Wellness Policy (BP 5030) was revised August 9, 2017. It updates and reflects changes to all federal, state, local, and District guidelines. Additionally, the policy was re-organized and headings added for clarity and organizational purposes.

Summary of Key Wellness Policy Guidelines- School and District Community:

  • Prohibiting food items in celebration of a student’s birthday on the school site during the school day.
  • Permitting no more than two parties/celebrations with food for each class, per school year, to be scheduled after lunch whenever possible. All food items should be store-bought, pre-packaged, and/or pre-wrapped for food safety and allergies.

*The complete Wellness Policy can be found here.

Join our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) Group!

We need your help to make this year fantastic! Please join our PTO group to help out at school events. We are also looking for parents to join with membership dues of $5 per student or $10 per family. Forms and money can be turned in to the office. Membership dues help to fund field trips, school events, classroom supplies, guest speakers, assemblies, and much more! All the money collected is spent on OUR LOMA VERDE STUDENTS! Please contact PTO Chairperson, Giselle Aguirre, to volunteer or ask questions at giselleaguirrerazo@gmail.com. Thank you!

LOMA VERDE SPIRIT GEAR IS FOR SALE!

We are selling Loma Verde spirit shirts and hoodies at school. The t-shirts are $12, grey sweatshirt hoodies are $24, and green zip hoodies are $30. (Cash only at this time.) Students can wear the spirit t-shirts and sweatshirt any day of the week OR the uniform shirt. Order forms can be picked up in the office. Let’s show our school spirit, Wildcats! Please make sure to write your child’s first and last name inside their hoodie.

Gently Used Uniforms Needed

Has your child outgrown their school uniform from last year? The Loma Verde Health Office needs donations of clean uniform clothes to have on hand for children who need to change clothes. If you have any clean children’s uniform shirts, shorts, pants, or skirts that you no longer need, please bring them to the health office. We are also accepting donations of new, packaged underwear for this purpose.
