Hello Loma Verde Wildcat Families!
We’re so excited to kick off another great week of learning together! Our Kinder through 6th-grade English Learners are finishing up their ELPAC testing, and with just 10 days left in the quarter, it’s more important than ever for your child to be at school EVERY DAY and ON TIME to make the most of their learning.
Also, parent-teacher conferences are coming up soon—running from Thursday, 3/13, through Thursday, 3/20. Your child’s teacher has shared details on how to sign up, but if you need any help scheduling, please reach out to the office—we’re happy to assist!
Be sure to check out the important dates and parent involvement opportunities below. And don’t miss the amazing snapshots of all the wonderful learning happening here at Loma Verde!
Thank you for your ongoing support—we truly appreciate all you do for our school and your child’s education!
With gratitude, Mrs. Bree Watson

PLEASE HELP! Annual YMCA Giving Campaign Coin Drive
We’re thrilled to share that we’ve raised $817 toward our $850 goal to support the YMCA—but we still need your help! Every contribution counts, whether it’s a few coins or a few dollars.
We’re hosting a class coin drive, and if we reach our schoolwide goal, students will get the chance to slime the principal and staff on March 12, 2025!
Each class will have a donation box for spare change or cash, and you can also spread the word by sharing this link with family and friends: https://give.classy.org/LomaVerdeElementary.
Your donations will help fund the YMCA after-school program, camps, intersession programs, scholarships, and other fantastic initiatives that support our community.
We truly appreciate everything the YMCA does for Loma Verde families! Donations are due by March 12, 2025. Thank you for your generosity and support!

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences 3/13-3/20
It’s almost time for parent-teacher conferences as we approach the end of the quarter! You should be receiving, or may have already received, information from your child’s teacher about our spring Parent-Teacher conferences, scheduled for March 13-20, 2025.
Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with each parent or legal guardian. Please try to honor your scheduled conference time, or let us know if you need to reschedule. Many of our spring conferences are student-led, giving your child the chance to share their learning journey with you. We’re excited to meet with you and discuss your child’s growth this year!
Important Note: All students will have minimum days during parent-teacher conferences, with dismissal at 1:00 pm for TK-6th grade. Every family is expected to participate in a conference, so please reach out to your classroom teacher if you haven’t scheduled a conference time yet.
Tips for Parents: To make the most of your conference, here are some helpful questions to ask:
- Academic Progress: How is my child doing in their subjects? Are there any areas where they shine or might need extra help?
- Social Development: How does my child get along with their classmates? Are there any social skills they should work on?
- Behavior and Participation: How does my child behave in class? Are they engaged and participating actively?
- Support at Home: What can we do at home to support my child’s learning and development?
We hope these tips help you have a great conference experience. Thank you for your continued support and involvement!

REMINDER: Do Not Bring Toys, Cards, Gadgets, or Electronics Devices to School
Students should not bring toys, cards, unnecessary gadgets, or electronics to school unless approved by the classroom teacher. Please leave all toys, fidgets, pop-its, and other items at home. Thank you for your cooperation.

Don’t forget to set your clocks one hour ahead next weekend. It’s that time of year to “Spring Forward.” Daylight Saving Time officially begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Thank You For Attending the PTO Spring Family Dance!
Thank you to our amazing PTO parent group that organized a fantastic Neon Family Dance! Over 200 people attended the event last Friday night. We appreciate all the time, talent, and energy of the PTO parents! Thank you to the staff members who attended the dance!

We hope you enjoy the time off with your children. We encourage all our students to continue reading and practicing math over the break. Also, you may want to have your 3rd-6th grade child practice a few sample test items to help prepare for CAASPP testing in May: Practice Tests. Thank you for your support!

Whether your student is in transitional kindergarten through 6th grade or a returning student, you can register them for the upcoming year. Select district charter schools also accept grades 7th through 12th grade registrations.

- We need parent and community volunteers to help monitor student safety in the parking lot around our school at drop-off and dismissal time! Our Wildcat volunteers work with school staff to serve as an extra set of eyes to keep kids safe outside of our school gates. Any interested volunteers should contact Mrs. Watson or Mrs. Icela in the office or call (619) 420-3940.
If you are able to volunteer for any of the events below, please let us know!
- Parking Lot Safety 7:40-8:00 a.m. or 2:30-2:40 p.m.

Punctuality is Important
Did you know that being just 5 minutes late each day can add up to a significant loss of learning time over the school year? Every minute matters! Please take a moment to talk with your child about the importance of arriving at school on time every day.

Here’s what you need to know:
- Line-up Time: Students should be lined up on the blacktop by 7:55 am.
- Start Time: Classes begin promptly at 8:00 am.
- Gates Close: For the safety and security of our campus, all gates will close at 8:00 am.
- After this time, students will need to enter through the office and will be marked tardy.
Help your child build strong habits and maximize their learning time. Being on time sets the tone for a successful day!
DID YOU KNOW?
- Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
- Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). If they arrive after 8:00, they will be marked tardy.
- We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.
- Students can arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.
- FREE breakfast is served from 7:15 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
- If your child/children are absent it is very important to call the office to report the reason for the absence (619-420-3940). Please leave a voicemail or send an email to lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org.
- Absences that are not reported will be considered UNEXCUSED. After 3 unexcused absences and/or tardies you will receive a truancy letter.
- If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
- Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
- If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning!
- Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
- Thank you for helping to get your child to school every day and one time!

PARKING, DROP-OFF, AND PICK-UP
All of us at Loma Verde want to thank our families and community members in advance for their patience and understanding as we try to accommodate the many vehicles that arrive each morning and afternoon at our school. We strongly recommend that families use the drop-off and pick-up areas we have established at school. Drop off students only in the drop-off zone.

- If you must leave your car, park in the parking lot, not the bus loop.
- NO Dogs during arrival and dismissal.
- Please do not park in RESERVED spaces or the staff parking lot.
- Students must walk bikes on the sidewalk.
- The drop-off window is between 7:15-7:50 AM for students that are eating breakfast on campus and 7:30-8:00 AM for students that are not having breakfast at school. Students will line up on the blacktop in the morning between 7:30-8:00 AM where they will be supervised by Loma Verde staff. Each class has a designated place to line up. Teachers will pick their classes up on the blacktop at 8:00 AM. Instruction begins at 8:00 every day. Your child will be considered tardy if they are not on campus by 8:00 AM.
- Kinder, TK, SDC preschool, and preschool parents: please follow your teacher’s instructions regarding drop-off.
- Students who are not picked up by 2:45 pm (1:15 pm on minimum days) will be escorted to the office and must sign in. The person picking up the child must come to the office to sign him/her out.
- Parents may come onto campus from 2:30-2:45 PM (1:00-1:15 minimum days) to pick up their child(ren). Please pick up your child outside the classroom and leave campus promptly. Gates will be locked at 2:45 PM and 1:15 PM on minimum days.
- For everyone’s safety BE PATIENT, KIND, and CONSIDERATE.
