Loma Verde Character Trait of the Month – Teamwork

This February, our character trait of the month is teamwork! Here are a few ideas on how you can talk about and encourage teamwork at home:
- Share Stories: Read books or watch movies that highlight teamwork. Discuss the characters’ actions and how working together helped them achieve their goals. Ask your child how they can apply these lessons in their own life.
- Family Projects: Engage in activities that require collaboration, such as cooking a meal together, building a puzzle, or working on a craft project. Emphasize the importance of each person’s role and how everyone’s contribution is valuable.
- Play Team Games: Play games that require teamwork, like relay races, board games, or team sports. These activities can help children understand the importance of working together and supporting each other.
- Model Teamwork: Show your child examples of teamwork in your daily life. Whether it’s working with a colleague, helping a neighbor, or collaborating on household chores, let your child see how teamwork makes tasks easier and more enjoyable.
We hope these ideas help you reinforce the importance of teamwork at home. Thank you for your continued support in nurturing our students’ character development!

PLEASE HELP! Annual YMCA Giving Campaign Coin Drive

Hello Loma Verde Families!
We’re excited to announce our goal of raising $850 to support the YMCA, and we need your help! Every little bit counts, whether it’s a few coins or dollars. We’re hosting a class coin drive, and if we reach our school goal, students will get the chance to slime the principal and staff on 3/7/25!
Each class will have a donation jar for spare change or dollars. You can also share this link with family and friends: https://give.classy.org/LomaVerdeElementary. Donations will support the Lead HUB before and after school program, YMCA camps, intersession programs, scholarships, and other wonderful YMCA initiatives for our community.
We truly appreciate all the YMCA does for Loma Verde families! Donations are due by March 7, 2025. Thank you for your support!

WE NEED YOU! Read Across Loma Verde – Sign Up
Join Us for National Read Across America Day at Loma Verde Elementary!
We’re thrilled to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ love of reading with the nationwide “Read Across America” event on March 6th.
We need your help! Thursday, March 6, 2025, is our Community Readers Day, and we’d be delighted if you could join us between 8:15-and 9:30 a.m. to read a short book to a class or two. (You can pick a book from our library.)
If you can make it, please let us know by returning the form to your child’s teacher before Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Don’t forget to indicate your preferred time slot(s)!
We love having our community members volunteer their time at our school. It makes such a difference!
Tips for Parents: Reading to and with your children throughout elementary school is one of the best ways to support them as readers. Click here for tips on reading with your child.

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences 3/13-3/20
March is just around the corner, and that means it’s almost time for parent-teacher conferences as we approach the end of the quarter! You should be receiving, or may have already received, information from your child’s teacher about our spring Parent-Teacher conferences, scheduled for March 13-20, 2025.
Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with each parent or legal guardian. Please try to honor your scheduled conference time, or let us know if you need to reschedule. Many of our spring conferences are student-led, giving your child the chance to share their learning journey with you. We’re excited to meet with you and discuss your child’s growth this year!
Important Note: All students will have minimum days during parent-teacher conferences, with dismissal at 1:00 pm for TK-6th grade. Every family is expected to participate in a conference, so please reach out to your classroom teacher if you haven’t scheduled a conference time yet.
Tips for Parents: To make the most of your conference, here are some helpful questions to ask:
- Academic Progress: How is my child doing in their subjects? Are there any areas where they shine or might need extra help?
- Social Development: How does my child get along with their classmates? Are there any social skills they should work on?
- Behavior and Participation: How does my child behave in class? Are they engaged and participating actively?
- Support at Home: What can we do at home to support my child’s learning and development?
We hope these tips help you have a great conference experience. Thank you for your continued support and involvement!

Punctuality is Important

Did you know that being just 5 minutes late each day can add up to a significant loss of learning time over the school year? Every minute matters! Please take a moment to talk with your child about the importance of arriving at school on time every day.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Line-up Time: Students should be lined up on the blacktop by 7:55 am.
- Start Time: Classes begin promptly at 8:00 am.
- Gates Close: For the safety and security of our campus, all gates will close at 8:00 am.
- After this time, students will need to enter through the office and will be marked tardy.
Help your child build strong habits and maximize their learning time. Being on time sets the tone for a successful day!
DID YOU KNOW?
- Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
- Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). If they arrive after 8:00, they will be marked tardy.
- We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.
- Students can arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.
- FREE breakfast is served from 7:15 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
- If your child/children are absent it is very important to call the office to report the reason for the absence (619-420-3940). Please leave a voicemail or send an email to lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org.
- Absences that are not reported will be considered UNEXCUSED. After 3 unexcused absences and/or tardies you will receive a truancy letter.
- If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
- Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
- If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning!
- Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
- Thank you for helping to get your child to school every day and one time!

PARKING, DROP-OFF, AND PICK-UP
All of us at Loma Verde want to thank our families and community members in advance for their patience and understanding as we try to accommodate the many vehicles that arrive each morning and afternoon at our school. We strongly recommend that families use the drop-off and pick-up areas we have established at school. Drop off students only in the drop-off zone.
- If you must leave your car, park in the parking lot, not the bus loop.
- NO Dogs during arrival and dismissal.
- Please do not park in RESERVED spaces or the staff parking lot.
- Students must walk bikes on the sidewalk.
- The drop-off window is between 7:15-7:50 AM for students that are eating breakfast on campus and 7:30-8:00 AM for students that are not having breakfast at school. Students will line up on the blacktop in the morning between 7:30-8:00 AM where they will be supervised by Loma Verde staff. Each class has a designated place to line up. Teachers will pick their classes up on the blacktop at 8:00 AM. Instruction begins at 8:00 every day. Your child will be considered tardy if they are not on campus by 8:00 AM.
- Kinder, TK, SDC preschool, and preschool parents: please follow your teacher’s instructions regarding drop-off.
- Students who are not picked up by 2:45 pm (1:15 pm on minimum days) will be escorted to the office and must sign in. The person picking up the child must come to the office to sign him/her out.
- Parents may come onto campus from 2:30-2:45 PM (1:00-1:15 minimum days) to pick up their child(ren). Please pick up your child outside the classroom and leave campus promptly. Gates will be locked at 2:45 PM and 1:15 PM on minimum days.
- For everyone’s safety BE PATIENT, KIND, and CONSIDERATE.
