Zone Transfers and Registration Information

It’s almost that time again! Everyone attending Loma Verde Elementary on a CVESD Zone Transfer will receive an email this week with a specific link to renew the Zone Transfer for their child for the 2024-2025 school year.  Please complete this Zone Transfer (or ZT) process ASAP to keep your child at our school, or families risk losing their child’s spot at our school if a new family moves into the neighborhood. Please also remember that a Zone Transfer or Intradistrict Transfer may be denied if a child’s behavior or attendance needs improvement.

NEW STUDENT registration will begin on February 1online for the following:

  • Kindergartners who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2024.
  • NEW students in grades 1st through 6th
  • All registrations will take place online. There will be no paper packets. To register please visit our district website beginning on February 14: www.cvesd.org

Loma Verde Elementary has plenty of space in our Preschool, TK, and Kindergarten classes for next year, but has limited openings in our upper grades. Please contact our office for questions about space availability at (619) 479-3662. More information will be posted on our district’s website at www.cvesd.org in February 2024.

  • Please note:
    • TK students will not need a renewal zone transfer link as they will need to register at their neighborhood school for Kindergarten. Our district’s Early Childhood Education department supports Preschool and TK enrollment. Please contact them directly at (619) 425-9600 Ext.181725.
    • The Renewal Zone Transfer Form is independent of the “New Zone Transfer Form.”
    • Students who will be transitioning to Sweetwater Union High School District for seventh grade (middle school) do not need to notify CVESD about this, but will need to complete registration processes with that district via https://www.sweetwaterschools.org/.

New COVID-19 Guidance Update

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and SDCOE have updated the COVID-19 guidance. The updated guidance will allow individuals to follow a more symptom-based approach than usual for other illnesses. Individuals who develop symptoms and test positive must stay home for 24 hours from the onset. A child or staff member with COVID-19 can return to school or childcare if their symptoms are mild and improving and they have had no fever for 24 hours. They are no longer required to stay home for five days. If the student or staff member with COVID-19 never developed symptoms, they may continue to attend school or a childcare setting.

Students and staff must follow the masking guidance below:

  • Student masking indoors is strongly recommended through day ten after testing positive.
  • Staff masking indoors is required through day ten after testing positive per CAL/OSHA.
  • Symptom onset is day zero. If there are no symptoms, day zero is the test collection date. Individuals who have symptoms and test positive must stay home for at least 24 hours from the onset of symptoms.
  • The potential infectious period is two days before symptoms begin or the positive test date (if no symptoms) through day ten. (Day 0 is the symptom onset date or positive test date).
  • For any additional questions, please email covtest4@cvesd.org.

CVESD LCAP Information

We Want to Hear From You

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) wants to hear from you! As part of our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) process, we are hosting an in-person and online forum for families, students, and community members to participate in our annual LCAP survey. The LCAP survey is part of CVESD’s annual efforts to ensure that our resources are being allocated to meet the needs of our diverse student population.

What is LCAP?

The LCAP is a three-year plan that includes specific goals and actions to improve student outcomes and measurable indicators to track progress and outlines how the district plans to allocate resources, including state and local funding. It is an essential component of the Local Control Funding Formula, which requires school districts to create an annual plan that lists goals, defines outcomes, details actions, and tracks expenditures.

Forum Details:

We invite you to join us at the district office, or online, on February 13, 2024, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Spanish interpretation will be available.

For more information, please visit our LCAP district page or look below at the LCAP Parent Guide for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!

Parent Workshop Opportunities

We are inviting preschool families to register for a free workshop series presented by the Parent Institute for Quality Education. Starting in January through March, parents enrolled will be able to learn ways to encourage their child’s early literacy development at home. The workshop series is online – space is limited! For additional information or questions, please reach out to Dr. Madrigal-Patel.

WeTip

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is proud to introduce a new anonymous reporting program called WeTip which launched on November 1, 2023. WeTip will enhance safety at CVESD while actively empowering students, staff, and community members to maintain a safe and secure environment. The WeTip link to the anonymous report can be found here.

Key Points About WeTip:

  • CVESD encourages all students, staff, and community members to be vigilant and report concerns – if you see something, say something.
  • Whether it’s a safety concern or any situation that raises suspicion, it can be reported quickly and easily online or through a phone call or text message.
  • Reporting a tip is easy, anonymous, and confidential.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

Students need to be at school every day and on time. Please make sure your child is here by 7:55 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). Let’s continue to improve our attendance! If your child must be out sick, please contact the office at 619-420-3940 or lomaverdeschool@cvesd.org to excuse the absence. Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible. If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning! Our school staff will be meeting with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent.

Week #22 TK-6th grade attendance average: 90% (Goal is 98% or higher)
Yearly to date (7/19/23-1/26/24) average attendance: 95.5% (Goal is 98%)

Please visit this page for helpful resources on improving your child’s attendance: https://www.cvesd.org/parents/attendance-information.

  • LET’S CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OUR ATTENDANCE AT LOMA VERDE!
  • Students should only miss school if they are sick. Those with symptoms can return with a negative Covid test, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms improving. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SYMPTOM-FREE to attend school. We have plenty of rapid tests at school–just ask in the office. If you have a special circumstance and need an independent study, please let us know.
  • We begin a secure campus at 8:00 a.m. Parents/guardians must exit promptly at 8:00. Thank you.
  • Students can arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.
  • FREE breakfast is served from 7:15 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
  • Absences that are not reported will be considered UNEXCUSED. After 3 unexcused absences and/or tardies you will receive a truancy letter.
  • If you pick up your child/children early and/or they are tardy for personal reasons this is considered unexcused.
  • Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible.
  • If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning!
  • Our school staff will be scheduling SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or excessive tardies).
  • Thank you for helping to get your child to school every day and one time!

REMINDERS

  • EVERY MINUTE COUNTS! School starts at 8:00 a.m. Students need to be on the blacktop at this time and teachers will walk them to class. We ask all parents to exit promptly by 8:00 a.m. so that we can lock the gate after the bell.
  • Please send a water bottle with your child. Water bottles can be filled at the classroom sink or outside drinking fountains.
  • Label lunch boxes, water bottles, and sweaters with your child’s name!
  • No toys, trading cards, fidgets, or sports equipment from home are allowed at school.

We are inviting preschool families to register for a free workshop series presented by the Parent Institute for Quality Education. Starting in January through March, parents enrolled will be able to learn ways to encourage their child’s early literacy development at home. The workshop series is online – space is limited! Full House Fridays

Full House Friday- Congratulations to the following classes for having perfect attendance for full house Friday:

  • Room 204 Ms. Sadler – 2nd grade
  • Room 403 Ms. Jones – 4th grade
  • Room 501 Mrs. Pulido – Kinder
  • Room 505 Ms. Nevarez – 4th grade

Loma Verde Wildcats are going to pack the house on Friday, December 1st for our first #FullHouseFriday. Every Friday, there will be a fun activity to encourage students to attend. The activity will not be announced – and your child won’t want to miss it. Also, each student who attends school that Friday will earn a point for our school in our district’s attendance competition! See the flyer below for more information:

Week #19 TK-6th grade attendance average: 96% (Goal is 98% or higher)
Yearly to date (7/19/23-12/15/23) average attendance: 95.9% (Goal is 98%)

WAY TO GO!!!! Look at the class with attendance at 97% or better for week #19 (12/11-12/15):

  • 99.3% Room 403 – Ms. McGill – 5th grade
  • 98.9% Room 203 – Ms. Rincon – 2nd grade
  • 97.9% Room 204 – Ms. Sadler – 2nd grade
  • 97.8% Room 201 – Mrs. Konnight – 3rd grade
  • 97.8% Room 503 – Ms. Jones – 4th grade
  • 97% Room 505 – Ms. Nevarez – 4th grade

  • Click here to access our 2023-2024 Loma Verde Parent/Student Handbook.

  • We need parent and community volunteers to help monitor student safety in the parking lot around our school at drop-off and dismissal time! Our Wildcat volunteers work with school staff to serve as an extra set of eyes to keep kids safe outside of our school gates. Any interested volunteers should contact Mrs. Watson or Mrs. Ivonne Jimenez in the office or call (619) 420-3940.

If you have any clean children’s uniform shirts, shorts, pants, or skirts that you no longer need, please bring them to the health office. We are also accepting donations of new, packaged underwear for this purpose.
